When I saw this camper set up in the park I was curious as to where they came from. Even though the park closes at 10PM and they will have to leave I thought it was great that they totally set up with their gas powered generator, awning out, and even bringing the canoe. Once I got close enough I could see they were not from out of State... they were from right here in Minot.I thought, that is a pretty good idea, to get the most out of your new camper. Made me wonder where I/we could set up in town for the day. Some other pics from our walk yesterday.Just a note: I had to walk from park bench to park bench and take about a 10 minute break at each bench due to my current medical situation. It was hot out (90 degrees) Baby doesn't always have her tongue out that far. It was a perfect day. T...

A few years ago I posted about one of our families favorites zoo exhibits, the Kirks Dik Dik.The exhibit has grown with one new baby born last week. These graceful little creatures are actually of the antilope family. I wrote a post about them a few years back and it said: When talking about BIG attractions there is nothing like our Dik Dik. Hang with the animals in Minot. Visit The Roosevelt Park Zoo and see our Dik Dik this weekend or any day the Zoo is open. Our Dik Dik is only 2' long (average) so it's not the worlds biggest Dik Dik but for many it's the only Dik Dik they may ever see! The Kirk's dik-dik (Madoqua kirkii) is a small antelope native to Eastern Africa and one of four species of dik-dik antelope. For more information on the Kirks Dik Dik visit the Roosevelt Park Zoo in ...

Clear skies, no wind, and 30 degree temps sent many families to the Roosevelt Park Zoo today. The parking lot was full. Here are some shots from my walk this afternoon. Here is the perfect Christmas inflatable to have in front of the Zoo.The perfect Christmas Outfit to show off to the bears.Despite the heat wave I'm guessing Teddy was pretty cool in the saddle.

It's been a perfect day today in Minot with blue skies, temps in the upper 70's, and only an occasional breeze. It was a great day for walks, a visit to the park, or to the zoo. Here are a few of the things I saw along the way including a scary looking sea serpent. First the not so scary stuff.      The two shots above really tested the limits of my telephoto lens as well as the stability of my hands. My wife and son could not believe I even saw them in the first place to realize there was a picture there. Here are a couple of pollinators I captured.      And the Sea Serpent! It took me a long time to figure out what I was looking at here and again it challenged my telephoto lense as well.

I didn't see any of the critters above in the banner but 3 out of 5 of them were with-in a matter of feet from us as our walk was around Roosevelt Park which is just outside of the Roosevelt Park Zoo. I'll skip the flower picks tonight (although I got some for later) and just show you the animal life on the walk. All 3 photos were taken this evening BUT yes that is my backyard bunny.

On my evening walk this lily obviously bloomed just for me so I could show it to you. Truth is I'm always enviouslyof the beautiful lily shots I see here on Active Rain. Roy Kelley always has some amazing shots. This is another photo from one of the gardens in and around The Roosevelt Park and Roosevelt Park Zoo. The Park District does an absolutely amazing job with their gardens and the endless variety of plants they they show us.

As I bicycled through Roosevelt Park I was pleased to see the Minot Park District had put the fishing piers into the water and people were eager to use them.Although the Mouse river is a muddy river it does hold some good game fish and this time of year is the best time to catch them if you plan on making a meal of your catch.Minot usually has 4 piers available but due to the flood controll projects taking place only two are available and both are in Roosevelt Park. Fishing is just another great family activity you can find in Minot. I enjoy stopping by once in a while just to see the joy on the childrens faces when they catch a fish. Before you drop a line in the water remember that you have to have a fishing license. To learn more click on HERE. North Dakota does have four FREE Fishing...
