Rising to the challenge Lisa Von Domek has put before us, Sliding Into The 4th Quarter Holiday Challenge, I've put together my thoughts on holiday marketing.Starting with HalloweenNo need to loose your head while house hunting, just loose the agent who doesn't listen to your needs! When you work with Tivoli Custom Homes you won't be looking at a "grave yard" of  old used homes. Tell us exactly what you want and we will build it for you!No skeletons in the closet, no bats in the belfry.Your new home will be ghoul free and ready for you to write the fairy tale story of your love for each other and your family.Thanksgiving Gobble up a great deal on a custom home. Did you know that buying a home before the end of the year has many tax advantages for you, the 1st time home owner? What better t...

One the radio broadcast of Minot Today my guest is Louis (Mac) McLeod, Executive Director of the Minot Coalition, Inc.. What a timely subject! The homeless in Minot ND are not as visible as they are in many other cities but they are here. Learn what you can do to help those in need in our community. Today's radio broadcast with Louis (Mac) McLeod is very informative. After listening you can find the Minot Area Homeless Coalition on FB or call Mac at 701-852-6300. I've mentioned several times in the past how Minot is so blessed to have the Minot Air Force Base as a neighbor. It not only is a big financial help to the City but MORE important is the quality of people the base brings here and often these folks stay here because they appreciate the quality of life here in Minot ND.Louis (Mac...

This home is very close to the model home that serves as my office. I've appreciated their "garden yard" all summer and I have to say THIS IS CURB APPEAL!I actually walked over just to photograph the maple tree being we have so few trees that have changed to red this fall. I wanted to capture this one while most of the leaves were still attached to the tree.

With the BIG boys out of business (Toy's R Us and Kay Bee Toys) where do you find cool and unique toys in Minot North Dakota???  Natures nook Children's Toys & Books is where your treasure is.You will find Nature's nook on North Hill at 1700 21st Ave. NW, Suite B Minot NDTimmothy's 2nd book signing was here today and I'm happy to say things went well. I have to say that the owners of Nature's nook, Dave & Deb Peery, were wonderful hosts. They greeted people at the door and immediately directed them to "the Guest Artist" Timmothy Timm. When they were not busy directing traffic Timmothy's way we had a lot of fun swapping stories of our youth as well as experiences we have had since moving to Minot ND.I stopped at the printers on Friday to see how the 2nd printing of 100 books is coming and...

If you missed Timmothy's first book signing last Saturday we hope you will come see him this Saturday at Nature's nook Children's Toys & Books at 1700 21st Ave, NW Suite B (next to Caribou Coffee) Minot ND. Timmothy will be personalizing and signing books as well as demonstrating his craft by writing and illustrating his comic strip between signings. Timmothy Timm is a 16 year old young man with high functioning autism. He has been writing about the adventures of Titus & Philemon, two guinea pigs, and their friend Joe for about 3 years now. This is his 1st book with enough material on hand to produce at least a couple more. This book is written in the form or a daily comic strip and is done in pencil. Timmothy's autistic challenge is most evident in verbal communications yet his strong ...

Sometimes you have to build a wall... or you won't get a certificate of occupancy. That's the case with one of the homes I'm helping out with as the Project Coordinator for Tivoli Custom Homes in Minot North Dakota. Of course this was not a surprise to us as we knew this to be the case before we broke ground on the home. This happens to be at our model home at 9 11th Ave NE, Minot ND where my office is located. I've been kind of secure in knowing I would not have to move my office for a while because without the certificate of occupancy we could not sell our model home. Now I better start packing.I can not emphasis enough how important a certificate of occupancy is. If you are a buyer looking at fixer uppers or brand new homes and you are working with a competent Realtor you probably don...

This is one of those events Realtors can be very proud of, Kicking the Cold Fundraiser for Kids. This drive is hosted by the Minot Board of Realtors. Minot Realtors are to be commended for many programs to benefit the community, this one is certainly at the top of the list in my book but I have to admit my very favorite is a tradition that started in Minot ND and is now Nation wide... Realtor Ring day where on day every Salvation Army bell ringing location is staffed by Realtors for the whole day. Here is the details on the Kicking the Cold Fundraiser for Kids. Thanks also to the Minot Daily news for keeping this event out in front of the public.

Who would think that one of Minot North Dakota's biggest cheerleaders would be a native of Miami Florida who moved here because she and her husband LOVE cold weather!I believe you will LOVE this radio broadcast of my interview with Christine Staley, founder of Magic City Hoagies in Minot.  Being the over the air version on Minot Today is limited to 15 minutes I often have to leave half an interview or more on the cutting floor. Thank goodness I can post the entire interview right here on Active Rain for your enjoyment. My interview with Christine Staley, founder of Magic City Hoagies, was such a delight I certainly had to make sure the entire interview was available to you. If you have not yet been to Magic City Hoagies you owe it to yourself to get over their right away. Stop just once...

It was really a thrill for Timmothy to see his face on the cover of the Minot Daily News this morning when he came to the breakfast table (it made Mom and Dad pretty happy too).Another thank you and shout out to Shyanne Belzer of the Minot Daily News for putting this interview together and seeing that it came out the day before Timmothy's 1st Book signing. Our local newspaper has been a wonderful asset to our community and if you live in the greater Minot area I hope you do/will support it. The Minot Daily News truly cares about this community.

I will be really eager to report back to all my Active Rain friends how Timmothy's first book signing goes on Saturday. Here is a poster I made for it and am spreading around town. Your opinion is welcome as to how I may improve it for the next book signing. BTW I'm having a very dificult time figuring out how to sell the book on line so if you are interested in a copy please email me (and thank you to several AR friends who have already done so).

This evening I took a walk through the Scandinavian Heritage Park. This is a very nicely groomed park in the heart of Minot and adjacent to the Visit Minot Center. I usually walk through it a couple of times a year but this was the first, and most likely only, time this year. Here are a few photos I took along the way.

It was a perfect night for a concert. Raised on Blue Oyster Cult and other rock bands my tastes have now changed to Southern Gospel. Tonight I had the pleasure of listening to Lindley Creek. Here is a clip of the performance they let me take.  Lindley Creek playing at Our Saviors Church (LC-MS) in Minot North Dakota on September 8th 2018 under the tent. It was a perfect evening for the concert with the temp hovering right around 80 degrees but gusty winds keeping everything cool. Just one song in this hand-held video. For more check out LindleyCreek.com Lindley Creek is The Greer Family out of Goodson MO.

I, the interviewer, got to interview Minot's top interviewer.I was really looking forward to visiting with Shyanne Belzer of the Minot Daily News and I was NOT disappointed. What would be more fun for me than to interview a professional interviewer? Shyanne has covered events and features for the Minot Daily News for about a year now and she is really good at it. Starting fresh out of college she sees this as a possible life long career along with writing books as well. Shyanne is truly a gem in Minot's crown of local talent, I hope we can keep her here for many years to come. In two weeks Shyanne will be publishing an interview with my 16 year old son Timmothy about his new book: TITUS & PHILEMON TAKE THE STAGE. Shyanne was kind enough to time the release of the interview to co-inside ...

I think everyone is aware of how brutal North Dakota winters can be and just like everywhere else in the world North Dakota has a population of homeless people. Can you imagine being homeless in an environment as harsh as a North Dakota winter? Here is an opportunity to show compassion AND have an enjoyable family time. I hope to see you there. To learn more about Minot's Men's Winter Refuge click here.

I've taken this event in before as a home owner and enjoyed meeting contractors for a specific purpose to be meet in my home at that time. This time the event will have a different purpose for me as the Project Coordinator for Tivoli Custom Homes. I've only worn the hat of project coordinator for a short time but I've been amazed already at the difficulty of finding good quality sub-contractors who are reliable. Throw in reasonable and it's almost an impossible task.

One of the many reasons I continue to subscribe to the newspaper is to keep up with the passing of friends and prominent local folks who have passed on. In our busy world it's easy to lose track of folks we even consider friends. Such was the case when I read the obituaries yesterday.James is the son of a friend, Phil, whom I have know for years through my past membership in the Lions Club. Phil is the owner of Lowe's Garden Center in Minot and I have interviewed both Phil and James on Minot Real Estate Today. In honor of James I am re-posting our interview today. This was originally broadcast locally this spring. James Lowe is of the 3rd generation of the Lowe family who built the business of Lowe's Floral and Garden Center in Minot and James was a master in floral design. We covered a...

It's been a perfect day today in Minot with blue skies, temps in the upper 70's, and only an occasional breeze. It was a great day for walks, a visit to the park, or to the zoo. Here are a few of the things I saw along the way including a scary looking sea serpent. First the not so scary stuff.      The two shots above really tested the limits of my telephoto lens as well as the stability of my hands. My wife and son could not believe I even saw them in the first place to realize there was a picture there. Here are a couple of pollinators I captured.      And the Sea Serpent! It took me a long time to figure out what I was looking at here and again it challenged my telephoto lense as well.

For $20.00 the City of Minot will make a special garbage collection call to your home so there is absolutely no reason for someone to do this. This is at a lawn waste collection site where there are also signs saying "No Branches" yet of course, right in front of the sign, they deposit large branches. I did have two lawn bags to throw away but as you can see from the picture whom ever left the sofa also filled the dumpster with personal items. I hope the folks who collect the trash take out some of the personal papers I saw with names and address on them and report it. These people should pay a large fine... they could have sprung the $20.00 and not had to haul their trash and dump it illegally.

Yesterdays radio broadcast on Minot Real Estate Today was a return visit with Scott of The Putt District. Scott from the Putt District is back on Minot Real Estate Today to give us the exciting facts of the new ice cream bar they have added to The Putt District in downtown Minot. This is a beautiful custom Bar that they built and they will be featuring a North Dakota dairy with 8 flavors plus a monthly feature such as they have pumpkin as their grand opening flavor. More flavors will be added as they go along.Minot Today (we are renaming it) is broadcast over 106.9 FM every Friday at 12:15PM as well as on 1320 AM at 4:45 PM and then we post it here as a podcast as well so you can catch any episode you may have missed.
