I Can Zoom For $4,426 a Month! I love newspaper/print goofs. I know the late night talk show hosts used to show print errors on a regular basis but I don't stay up that late anymore. Our community has had a hard time keeping up with all the victims in wake of the flood that caused so much family stress and the oil boom which has brought many people here far from their homes and families. Driving In Minot North Dakota Driving in Minot ND has always been and adventure due to our climate, our topography, and due to our drivers. I don't think anyone ever "masters" driving on snow and ice because even us locals get an education every 1st snow of the season. Add into the mix that Minot is in and on top of a river valley so it seems like you are always going up or down a hill. Minot consists of "The Valley", "North Hill", and "South Hill". Each has it's own business district and housing. Throw into the mix that we have an Air Force Base that draws young men and women from places that have never seen snow or freezing rain. Oil Prices are Affecting Minot Housing   Wait and see is the attitude most home buyers seem to have in The Minot area with the surprise dip in oil prices of late. With the price per barrel half what it was just a couple of months ago many buyers are proceeding with caution. They may be well rewarded for their caution or it just may bite them in the rear. We are not seeing a drop in the home prices on a per square foot basis yet but we have definitely seen a slower than usual winter in our market. Only 21 homes closed this week, that's not very many in a boom town of 50,000+. There are only 150 single family stick built homes on the market today. Up Coming Performance Arts In Minot The arts are alive and well in Minot North Dakota. Minot State University brings many opportunities to the art lover, our Art museum (The Taube), The Mouse River Players, and so much more. WE'VE GOT A PAIR.... On my Christmas vacation in San Juan TX I saw a highway billboard with the large intro line "We've Got A Pair..." and it certainly caught my attention. Who would say that?             Can they say that? Who was a law firm. If anyone would know if they can say it I'd guess a law firm would know. What else did it say? Underneath two side by side pictures of buildings in much smaller print it said: "Of offices to better serve you." or something like that. OK, the reference was obvious and as somebody who has worked with attorneys in the past I assure you I want an attorney who has "a pair" and I don't mean offices. BUILDING PERMITS ARE A GOOD INDICATOR As you can see from the stats above, published in The Minot Daily News and provided by the Minot Building Inspection Office, the building "BOOM" following the oil boom is tapering off. More facts should be considered to come to any logical conclusions.   As a Broker/Owner of a small agency my line of thinking is: Home prices in the Minot ND area are NOT going to drop anytime soon. The market is very tight right now with only about 150 single family homes for sale in a market of 50,000 people. The average price per single family home in Minot is at an all time high of over $320,000. per home. WHERE DID ALL THE BOOK STORES GO?   While visiting down in the San Juan (Pharr) TX area I was struck by how far we had to travel to find a book store. Our host had taken us on several sight seeing trips over the Christmas celebration and in those many trips we never saw one. We had been keeping an eye out because next to the library a book store is my kids favorite place to be (and they don't even drink coffee). After asking several people in my hosts (over 55) community we received directions to a Barnes and Noble about 10 miles away. It was packed! I was kind of taken back by the fact that I'd say the average age in the store was about 30 years old. With this many young people demanding books and willing to pay Barnes and Noble prices I can't believe there isn't a book store on every... 12/27/2014

It was taken at a church function and two of the entertainers who volunteered were Cloudy & her husband Dizzy. Dizzy, Cloudy, and their daughter Sparkly have won many awards for their acts and Dizzy has been honored nationally for his balloon tieing skills. Cloudy's real name is Claudia Gillespie, her husband Ken, and daughter Janet. This time of year Cloudy and Dizzy are often seen is Santa & Mrs. Claus. This family has done so many charitable acts for others I doubt anyone could possibily surpass the number of smiles and good will they have given our community. Now they need your help. TIME TO SHRED I was cleaning out an old file cabinet left behind from the previous owner of the company and thinking... what am I going to do with this stuff? These were not sensitive customer files, just plat maps and development information collected by the previous owner, a property appraiser.   I could have spent hours going through each file looking for info I may or may not use.... some day.... but I'm opting to just get rid of the clutter. Just in case there is some personal information in there I'm going to take the paper to a recycling center and have it shred.   Here in Minot we have a company called Kalix that does the job. It's time for "THE GREAT TOMATO FESTIVAL"   Actually I'm almost late in posting this being the Festival is tomorrow, August 13th from 5:30 PM til 10:00 PM. I love this event. First of all it benefits several good causes, including The Minot Public Library (which my best friend is in charge of). I also love the event because it's a time I get to serve others (literally as I usually wait tables for the event), and maybe most important of all it's a big reminder to me that my anniversary is just a few days away and I better do something about it.   The event draws a thousand or so of Minot's who's who so it's always fun to see my closest friends (ha, ha).
