I love to browse through the antique European paintings on ebay.  I saw this little 12 inch "plein air" painting of a cow, listed for $1,125.   Oh, well.  I headed out to pick up coffee and turned the corner by Fair Haven (N.J.) hardware and saw the latest paintings in the window of good old-fashioned Fair Haven Hardware.  SWEET!                            People often say Fair Haven reminds them of a town in a Normal Rockwell scene.  It's a town where kids all walk to top-rated schools and ride their bikes to meet friends.  There's a great esprit de corps and it's a town where volunteerism is alive and well.  If you are thinking of moving to the Jersey Shore, give me a call and let me show you our Fair Haven. Cheers!

It's illegal right now in New Jersey, but pending legislation would allow real estate brokers to pay clients a portion of their commissions at the close of a deal. New Jersey is one of just 11 states that don't allow the incentive, said Sen. Nicholas P. Scutari (D-Union), one of the bill's sponsors. It would be up to the individual real estate agent to decide whether to pay the client and how much. "We're trying to help the real estate market and to allow real estate agents and brokers to make deals happen," Scutari said. The bill (S139/A373) cleared the Senate Commerce Committee. It has passed the Assembly and now goes to the full Senate for consideration. Senator Scutari's comments don't address the fact that the bill would only allow real estate brokers, not most real estate agents,...

Fair Haven's Borough Council voted tonight to move forward with the acquisition of a waterfront home to create a passive park.  Located at the end of DeNormandie Avenue, the piece is known locally as the Williams/Robards house. Charles Williams, a free black American, built his homestead in 1853, long before the Civil War.   The house had additions over the years, but retains it's hidden staircase, wavy glass windows and original cooking fireplace.  The land itself is well suited for a park, it is level, without wetlands and boasts a magnificent variety of specimen trees. Mayor Michael Halfacre, Borough Council and Fair Haven Administrator, Mary Howell have identified State, National and Monmouth County sources of funding to assist in the purchase of this park land. It is anticipated th...

Head for the backyard or beach Tuesday or Wednesday night!  The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show this week for those willing to stay up until midnight or willing to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait patiently for the shooting stars.  In Monmouth County, the best time to watch will be between midnight to 5 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 11th and Aug. 12, weather permitting. The Perseids are always reliable, and sometimes rather spectacular. The only things that puts a damper on the August show are bad weather or bright moonlight. Unfortunately this week, as the Perseids reach their peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the moon will be high in the sky, outshining the fainter meteors. The Perseids are bits of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, ...

As I watched the choppy river today, I thought back to this afternoon just last month when Kate and I grabbed lunch and took it over to the bench at the end of Grange.  In just a minute's time, sailboats, kayakers, power boaters, canoers, ducks and a heron all went past.

Still, overall unit volume is down almost 35% for same period (Q1-3) last year. On a more positive note, there were signficant gains in the average sales price with average sales prices well above any of the past four years. It's a beautiful day in Fair Haven, so I thought I'd share a few favorite photos that I've taken of the river. Fair Haven is a small town on the Navesink River, right between Red Bank and Rumson, known for it's picturesque neighborhoods with picket fences and small town atmosphere.  It's a town where kids walk to top rated schools and ride their bikes to friends' houses.  When the kids are a little older, they're off on bikes to sail or ride into Red Bank to see a movie.  It's like a town you'd remember from the 1950s where volunteerism is alive and well, full of green parks, where people have good neighbors in a laid back atmosphere.  It's why I chose to raise my family here.  If you'd like to bring your family to Fair Haven, just give me a call at 732-233-0294.  I'll be happy to show ...
