During this Holiday Acceptance contest, I would like to take this opportunity to tell the Active Rain community about rescuing. Not only do I sell real estate but I rescue dogs and cats and find them permanent homes. I knew very early in life, how important animals were to me. During this holiday season, I would like to m share the following story...it's not only about my dedication to helping homeless pets, but in addition the acceptance and selflessness of one rescued dog, her name was Misty. I received a call from a woman; that there were four little puppies in need, they were being abused. There were children there, who were kicking the pups and mistreating them. I just had an appointment yesterday  to view a home for a possible listing in town. When I received the call the other day, I did my regular screening to prepare for my appointment.  During the initial conversation I asked; how they happen to get my name and number. The caller told me that a friend knew my work and recommended them to contact me since they were considering selling their summer home. To me, that's one of the best compliments I can get, word of mouth!  Awesome! As I met with the homeowners and gave them my presentation, I mentioned that 87% percent of home buyers start online...(you know, blah-blah-blah). Let's face it; times are tough right now.  We're in a service-oriented industry that is very competitive. As much as we would love to send elaborate gifts this time of year, to show our appreciation to our clients and customers, bigger or expensive is not always better! With this economy, we've all had to tighten our budgets... Probably the most effective (and the least expensive) way to show your appreciation is a simple thank-you. Whether it's in the form of: a hand-written card computer generated card e-mail e-card phone call or in its most original and best form... "in person" Think of it; what would it mean to your contacts to hear "thank you for working with me". A simple "thank-you" can strengthen that connection/relationship and go a long way. In case you haven't heard...or haven't thought about this...                                                                                                Stores that are planning to close after the holidays are still selling cards. Unfortunately, there are no laws preventing stores from doing this.  In fact, this practice is referred to as "Bankruptcy Planning". Surveys have shown that two-thirds of shoppers plan to give gift cards this holiday season Let's face it; it's an easy gift to give.   I personally give gift cards all the time...not only during the holidays, but as a closing gift.  You put it in a greeting card...no wrapping needed! A: It's not like a bankruptcy or foreclosure that stays on one's credit. However, the owner's credit score could be affected by 100 - 150 points because of missed mortgage payments -- there can't be a short sale if the homeowner is not delinquent on his loan. The homeowner has the banks 'ok' to pay back less than what is owed on the home. The banks may report a 'settled for less than full balance' or 'paid in full' to the credit bureaus. Once the short sale is approved, the homeowner will avoid foreclosure, which would have a drastic affect on one's credit for the next 7 to 10 years. 08/30/2008
