What if Little Egg Harbor Had an Election and No One Came?  It happens almost every year on the third Saturday in February.  A little known election in being held tomorrow in 79 towns throughout New Jersey.  It the annual fire district elections, electing fire commissioners and levying taxes for equipment, buildings and fire fighter gear.There are only 79 municipalities in the state with fire districts (out of 566), so there not much attention paid to this oddly timed balloting.  Here in southern Ocean County, Little Egg Harbor is the only community with a fire district election tomorrow, February 20th.There are three fire districts in Little Egg Harbor, and there is very poor turnout for the balloting even though hundreds of thousands of tax dollars are approved or denied annually on t... 02/18/2010

I'm up early to being putting together my Christmas card list.  This year I plan to add more than new clients and friends.   After receiving several emails from friends encouraging me to send a Christmas greeting to "A Recovering American Soldier" at the Walter Reed Medical Center, I decided that would be one small way to thank those who've sacrificed so much.Well, after a little research I found that the post office will not accept anything addressed to "Any Service Member" or "A Recovering American Soldier".  If it does make it through the USPS, it will not be accepted by Walter Reed.But, for the third year, the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes continue the Holiday Mail for Heroes program.  Christmas cards and other holiday greetings will be accepted until December 7, 2009, so get ... 12/02/2009

Little Egg Harbor, NJ has received help to preserve what's left of its maritime forest.  At one time most of the Ocean County shore area  was covered with maritime forest.  But development in Manahawkin and Little Egg Harbor, NJ started fast and furious in the 60's and much of this integral part of the Jersey Shore ecosystem was lost.  These forests are an important stop for migratory birds, and a natural barrier during storms and hurricanes.  Perhaps the largest preserved maritime forest in Ocean County, NJ is found at Island Beach State Park.  On Long Beach Island, the protected area around the Barnegat Light House has a 1/5 mile walk through what's left of the maritime forest there.   .  .
