No, we're not talking about the kids dinosaur, but the Barnegat Lighthouse! It should be a sunny day at the Jersey Shore Saturday, October 11th for the 150th Anniversary of the Barnegat Lighthouse! There’s been a great deal of interest in the Lighthouse since it was announced recently that the beacon would be lit again on January 1, 2009. The Saturday celebration begins at 11am with a lecture on birds native to the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park at the northern tip of Long Beach Island!   There will be a fly over by the US Coast Guard at 2pm and a closing concert at 5pm by the Basement Musicians Guild Band! (Bring blankets and lawn chair.) Throughout the day you can visit booths hosted by various community organizations and listen to bagpipers! So come join the fun and learn the history...

In June 1834,Congress appropriated $6,000 for construction of a lighthouse at the north end of Long Beach Island .
