      River Vale, along with many other Bergen County towns, held its' National Night Out Against Crime yesterday, and residents, along with local businesses, showed their support in numbers while enjoying music, free food, rides, games and more. I was proud to join a few of my colleagues manning our table for the real estate company I work for, Friedberg Properties & Associates, located right here in River Vale. The event brought the community together with both River Vale and Bergen County Police. Many police programs and initiatives were on display such as D.A.R.E. and Bergen County Search and Rescue dogs. Not all battles or events favored the Americans however, and a dark day occurred on September 27, 1778 when British forces snuck up and killed American troops that were camped out. This event was known as the Baylor Massacre, for the group of Continental Dragoons killed that were led by Colonel George Baylor.
