Update:  Yesterday A1678 (Greenwald/ Prieto) and S692 (Sarlo/ Van Drew) received committee approval, 11-0-1 in the Assembly and 9-2-2 in the Senate.  As approved and amended by both committees, the bills would allow for homebuyer tax credits of up to $15,000, or 5% of the home purchase price.  Of the $100 million in proposed new credits, $75 million is allocated for purchases of new homes with the remainder for resales. Unlike the federal tax credit, the proposed state tax credit would have no income limits.  The credits would be available for one year only or until all monies were expended.The amendments provide for a reserve process for the awarding of tax credits.
