Old Town is the heart of Albuquerque's heritage. The first Spanish families settled near the banks of the Rio Grande in 1706.Much of the architecture of Old Town is Pueblo-Spanish, or adobe. Adobe buildings are constructed of adobe bricks (which are mostly composed of mud and straw) that are sunbaked, mortared with mud and protected with a layer of mud or cement. They are traditionally flat roofed, with curved edges, often supported with vigas (wooden beams supporting the roof) visible in the ceiling or protruding through walls. With the arrival of the railroad in 1880, many new building components became available. You will find several different styles of architecture, including Victorian and Contemporary.Thousands of visitors and residents alike come to Old Town on Christmas Eve & du...

Albuquerque has some great new homes being built in old, established neighborhoods with personality! This "infill" concept is becoming popular in many areas, in contrast to the previous, continual "urban sprawl" development style. A new development by the Greater Albuquerque Housing Partnership is building great new homes in a starter price range in one of Albuquerque's most historic neighborhoods: Barelas! This new develpment was recently profiled in the Albuquerque Journal. The new Barelas homes, in a historic New Mexico location, are designed to bring affordable housing to Albuquerque first-time homebuyers who meet certain income criteria. It will take a minimum of $28,000 in annual income to qualify for a 2 bedroom, 950 square foot home in this new-old neighborhood. A dozen homes hav...

Eloise Gift http://eloisegift.com Your Gift for real estateOrdered to Appear - Tuesday I missed my schedule office tour because I was striding the halls of justice in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Well, it was not really striding; it was more like flopping around like one of so many fish caught in random dragnets and tossed up on the beach flopping and gasping for air. The Metropolitan Court- I was ordered to appear in metropolitan court, http://www.metrocourt.state.nm.us/mainline.jsp?folder=maincontent&file=linkscontent,  because I was caught breaking the law. Distracted by thoughts of not arriving on time for an appointment I was driving above the posted speed limit. The policeman was almost apologetic. I agreed to appear before the judge. The metropolitan court is very elegant re...

Albuquerque's a great place for horse lovers! There are even areas in Albuquerque itself where horses are welcome, and the surrounding small towns and rural areas are virtually all equestrian-friendly!In Albuquerque:Some of the most prestigious residential areas of Albuquerque are also home to loads of equine residents, and even a large number of boarding and training facilities. A drive along Rio Grande in the North Valley constitutes a tour of some of Albuquerque's most luxurious (and expensive!) properties, but always results in plenty of vistas of open pastures full of horses, along with commercial facilities for hunter/jumpers, race horses, dressage, and various Western disciplines, too.                    North Albuquerque Acres, in one of the most prestigious sections of the North...

The Westside is a large area that starts at the western bank of the Rio Grande, and extends west up and over the western escarpment, to the north is bordered by the City of Rio Rancho, and south to Central Avenue (Old Route 66). There are great options for housing, education, and recreation.  The Albuquerque Real Estate on the west side includes affordable home options such as townhomes, and large master planned communities like Vantana Ranch, Paradise Hills, Taylor Ranch, & 7 Bar Ranch.  Also found on the west side are gorgeous luxury homes and estate properties.  It's also possible to get horse property on the west side.  One great feature of west side is that some of the best views of the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande Bosque can be found here.Several West Side neighborhoods are...

The North Valley, which includes the Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, is located along the Rio Grande and is considered the rural heart of Albuquerque.  With its tall trees, green pastures and beautiful nature filled setting, it offers the opportunity to be in the City, yet with a true rural feel in many parts.  While there are many residential neighborhoods here that are typical of other areas of Albuquerque, there are also farms and ranches, larger lots, estate properties, mature cottonwood trees, and the extensive ditch system called acequias. While you might live in a groomed subdivision in the North Valley, your drive to home can include seeing goats, chickens, cows and horses out in their pastures.  I have lived mostly in the North Valley and love the area.  Being from a hobb...
