Las Cruces Makes Forbes Top 25 Cities to Retire in 2014 The largest city in southern New Mexico has been named one of the top 25 U.S. cities in which to retire. Siting the fact that Las Cruces is a college town, home to New Mexico State University, has a good economy, cost of living 8% below the national average, median home price of around $176,000, a good state tax environment and our warm and dry climate. This comes as no surprise to those of us who already call Las Cruces home, certainly no surprise to me. I have shown about 40 houses in past two weeks to a few of these retirees who are wanting to start their new life under about 350 days of sunshine per year - that's a lot of outdoor activities! It starts as a small pile of mail, or a few clothes, or some toys, and a few days later the piles have multiplied in size. By the end of the week the pile has become a monster that you really don’t want to deal with. As I have stressed countless times, a clean house will sell faster and for more but a clean house also just feels better and will improve your mood! So I present to you an 8 step plan to attack and declutter each room to get your house under control! Step 1: Start Off Right TIP: Don't start with family heirlooms, those are the hardest to get rid of. You will want to start in the place that really motivated you to begin cleaning in the first place. What was the straw the broke the camel’s back? A backlog of upopened mail or laundry? The goal is to take care of that one AREA...

The Mistake Most Buyers Make is… Offering the wrong price for the home you really want to buy So how do you know the right price to offer? The first piece of advice I have for you is that you should have your own Buyer’s Agent that is truly representing you, and has your best interests in mind. Your Buyer’s Agent should be someone with the experience, references, and credentials to provide you with an Accurate, Up to date Analysis of the local Real Estate Market, Without knowing the market value of the home you want to buy, you could easily bid too much, or fail to make a competitive offer on an excellent value – and someone else could end up buying the home you really wanted. To help you find out what the right price to offer is, your agent will provide you with a written Comparative ...

Image Credit: Darrin Klimek/Digital Vision/Getty Images Decorating for Halloween is one of the best parts of the holiday. The worst part about the holiday is the clean-up afterwards. Outside, you may have to clean up your own decorations and any extra "decorations" added by pranksters, such as eggs and toilet paper. Inside, you may have candle wax that has dripped on your carpet or leftover costume makeup on your furniture. The fun must end sometime and the cleanup begin. We have created this short list of tips to help you clean up some of the more common messes that come along with Halloween.   Egg Splat Attack Time is the key here. If you wait until the afternoon, the eggs could become sunbaked. Sunbaked egg yolks can stain your siding. Clean these off your house as soon as possible....

White Sands Missile Range is one of the most important parts of the Las Cruces economy because it employs about 8,500 people. These jobs keep the Las Cruces economy active in good economic times and in bad. However, when one mentions White Sands to people from outside of our area, they don't typically think about the missile range. One of the most interesting features of southern New Mexico is White Sands National Monument. This desert oasis of what looks like white sand (but is actually gleaming white gypsum crystals) is one of the most popular tourist destinations in NM. If you live in southern NM, you know that White Sands Missile Range is even more important. White Sands Missile Range is the largest overland military test range in the United States, occupying about 3,200 square mile...

It’s Wednesday night and you put your feet up and just want to relax. You are the most relaxed you’ve been in decades and then you hear it: the sound of a teenage musician trying to strangle the airwaves with his guitar or maybe it’s the sounds of industry emanating from the garage or work room. Now, before you put on your own production of A Cask of Amontillado, let’s look at your alternatives for soundproofing your way to sanity!   Extra Drywall One of most effective options is adding an extra layer of drywall. The second layer muffles the sound vibrations with ease. You will need to repaint your drywall, extend your outlets, switches, and hookups. Acoustic Caulk Instead of just adding an extra layer of drywall, add beads of acoustical caulk. This creates an addition layer the sound ...
