If you’re a current homeowner, or in the market to buy, you’re probably curious about the latest trends in home design.Sellers who make strategic updates before listing a property can generate increased interest from buyers and, in some cases, a premium selling price. And buyers should consider which features of a home will need updating immediately (or in the near future) so they can factor renovation costs into their overall budget.Even if you have no immediate plans to buy or sell, we advise our clients to be thoughtful about the colors, materials, and finishes they select when planning a remodel. Making over-personalized or unpopular design choices could hurt a home’s value when it does come time to sell. And selecting out-of-style or overly-trendy elements could cause your renovati...

Bedford Basin is a large enclosed bay, forming the northwestern end of Halifax Harbour on Canada's Atlantic coast. Geographically, the basin is situated entirely within the Halifax Regional Municipality and is oriented northwest-southeast, measuring approximately 8 kilometres long and 5 kilometres wide, surrounded by low hills measuring up to 160 metres (525 feet) in elevation, although most elevations range up to 30-60 m (100-200 ft). The basin is quite deep with some areas measuring several dozen metres in depth; the good holding ground (mud) on the basin floor make it an ideal protected anchorage. The basin's geologic history can be traced to the Wisconsin Glaciation when it, along with "The Narrows", formed part of the pre-historic Sackville River valley. Bedford on the northwestern...

The Birch Cove Development Plan has been posted on the Halifax Regional Municipality's regional planning page and the PDF file outlining this plan can be found here. The master plan for Birch Cove appears to achieve the balance of combining a streamlined design vision with cutting edge sustainable technology, blending economic realism and social understanding. This balanced design approach is reflective of Birch Cove's values, meets its needs for future growth, and ensures its longevity as a premiere waterfront destination in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Property values are sure to surpass surrounding areas in the long term as the development plan will bring vitality, growth and beauty to an area that has not been living up to its fabulous potential in recent years.

I just returned from a meeting the city conducted to reveal the West Bedford Waterfront plan including Birch Cove and it was awesome!! Picture a village type environment surrounding a round-about replacing the current Kearney Lake Rd/Bedford highway interchange. Concerns over traffic were addressed by pointing out that this vision will take approximately 20 years to complete and the new Larry Uteck Interchange onto the Bi-Hi will alleviate congestion as would improved transit options currently being developed.  I for one would love to see this vision come to life because it will take what appears to be neglected commercial space (Irving, China Town Restaurant, old hotel, etc.) to that of a vibrant village atmosphere hosting green space, a board walk, boat marina, shops, housing, undergr...
