While my primary focus is on the Monroe, NY Real Estate Market, I support home owners and buyers in most of Orange County, NY.  I recently shared the Monroe NY 4Q12 - 4Q13 market results as well as the Warwick NY results for the same time period.  In both cases, there was a small upward movement in average prices from 4Q12 to 4Q13.       Of course, real estate is extremely local, so the question is, are there any areas in the immediate area that saw a more obvious price increase?     Yes!     In Blooming Grove, NY, the town that sits on the northern edge of Monroe, three of the four 2013 quarters experienced a higher average price point than the 4th quarter of 2012.       The average in the 4th quarter of 2012 was $222K, and in 4th quarter of 2013, the average was $241K, a gain of nearl...

South Blooming Grove - A state Supreme Court justice has declared it illegal for the village to charge a Hasidic group attorney fees for legal advice on the group's request to open a yeshiva at the old Lake Anne resort. The decision by Judge Lewis Lubell is a setback for the village, which has been locked in fierce battles with Hasidic developers, who own the majority of undeveloped land - more than 800 acres - in the village. At least three lawsuits and one counter-lawsuit have been filed by Hasidic Jews and the village in the three years since the village was incorporated. The most recently filed lawsuit argues that the incorporation of the village itself was an attempt to prevent the expansion of Hasidic communities in southern Orange County. That case has been moved to federal court...

BLOOMING GROVE - Animal shelter manager Kathy Forian has been fired because she brought her own pets to work and adopted dogs without approval, a shelter official said. The termination is the second for Forian, who was fired from the Town of Monroe animal shelter three years ago after being accused of overpaying her daughter, who worked with her. Forian struck a plea agreement in that case, just as she began working as animal control officer for Blooming Grove. Rick Horn, Blooming Grove Humane Society president and a town councilman, said Forian did nothing criminal. "We let her go because we found her performance was not up to expectations," he said. Forian was promoted from animal control officer to shelter manager 18 months ago. She was placed on probation at her job on Feb. 16, when...

Landscapes can look pretty drab this time of year. It is fall, and most garden plants are done for the season. Flowers are spent, and all that remains are dry stalks. Now is the time to look for a quick fix for uninteresting exteriors.                                                  Mums to the rescue!                             Nothing can be easier than creating instant curb appeal with potted chrysanthemums. Chrysanthemums, mums for short, are easy to find this time of year. Just look around and you will see them for sale virtually everywhere. Potted mums may be found at garden supply stores, greenhouses, and variety stores. I found mums for sale at my local grocery store and Wal*Mart. Chrysanthemums are inexpensive, compact plants that boast multiple long lasting blooms in a wide ...
