How many times have you seen a house that has been remodeled and asked for a Certificate of Occupancy and they don't have one?  No permits and no CO!  Great!  What do you do? You walk into a house and even though the house was built in the 1950s or even earlier, the kitchen and bathrooms are now updated.  Garage is new and everything looks fabulous. These days, these things happen all the time.  Few years ago, an associate of mine had a listing that had two kitchens, one on the first floor and one in the basement used "supposedly" in the summer when friends and relatives visited for a swim.  The owner never got a permit to install the kitchen.  Maybe they knew that they won't be able to get one.  The house was listed at over $2 million.  The house never sold!  The buyer backed off.  The...

Summer is here!  With the temperature hovering into the high 90s and the heat index at 100+ for several days now, there are several things we ought to do to keep our roses happy during the dog days of summer.  The roses are suffering from extreme heat and so does the rosarian who takes care of them.   With the searing heat, you have to learn how to slow down.  Drink a lot of water while working in the garden.   Take a break every so often.  Wear protective gear like hat, long sleeves and sunscreen. Try to work early in the garden before the sun is up or late in the afternoon when it is cooler. Water, water, water - Roses needs at least 2" of water every week especially during the hot dry summer days.  So when the rain stops, water them deeply.  This week I ran the sprinkler for an hou...

I found this photo while I was sorting some of my stuffs for my move to my next home.  My dog, Jake, loved and enjoyed the last winter when there were plenty of snow to play around.  With the heat wave going on for the last three weeks, he looks tired and weary.  All he does all day is lie down on the rug and sleeps.  He will go out with me outside in the morning while I weed before it really gets hot and he just lie down on the dirt underneath the shade of the tree.  He used to drink milk in the morning after I finished my cereal and he loved it.  He had two servings this week and he threw up on both occasions so I stopped giving him milk.  Luckily he did it near the back door.  A little bit came on the area  rug which I hose-washed outside.  It dried in two hours under the hot sun. ...
