Hi everybody.  I'm home safe and sound from my wonderful trip to Cancun for Convention.  It was both fun and super productive. I have so much to catch up and so much I want to blog about from this trip. For now, though, I have to go to sleep after a long travel day. So, in parting, I will leave you with some photos of our lunch guests.  They liked to hang out at the snack bar by the pool.  I guess good food and a few cracks underneath for them to hide.   I wonder what would happen if I bring my cats next time.  They would be stunned - I think. LOL.

I had dinner at my parent's house this evening in Chappaquq.  My 7 year old niece decided she wanted to help Grandma make lasagna, and so she became Head Chef for the evening.  She ordered all the assistant cooks around (in a cute way) and even got grampy to participate which is quite an accomplishment. While we were waiting for dinner to cook, I showed her one of videos I made on my blog from Xtranormal.  she thought that was so cool and of course wanted to make one of her own. It is amazing how excited she got in making it and anticipating how grampy would react to her work of art. It was simply adorable.  I wish I could share the video with you but I couldn't get it to save (long story). But, it was such a fun evening and she is looking forward to her next creation.  It was nice to s...

Donna Foerster, Ellen Caruso, Dagny Eason, Ken Barker and Carla Mus-Jacobs tagged me, so here goes by story and BHAG (Big hairy audacious goal). 2011 BHAG: Grow my business 66%!  This is dependent on me hiring and training a successful sales person - she just started yesterday and I have big plans for her (I hope to blog about her later in the week).  Hoping that I have a 2nd strong one in place and trained by end of yr to make 2012 even stronger. 5 Things about me 1.  I grew up in Westchester county in Chappaqua NY. When I grew up, no one had heard of that except to ask if that was the place where Ted Kennedy had his accident (i.e. Chappaquiddick which of course it's not).  Then, when I got older, we became a bit more famous when Vanessa Williams was named Miss America. Now, people kno...

Reader's Digest has a huge world headquarters in nearby Chappaqua, New York. I should say HAD a huge headquarters. The company quietly left the campus this past week to smaller digs in Manhattan. This represents the fall of a local giant, and the final exit of a company that was a Westchester institution. To work at Reader's Digest was special; it was one of the companies that made Westchester County unique. And now it is gone. You can still subscribe to the publication, mind you, but the Reader's Digest I grew up with is dead.  You really should read the article to get an appreciation of how Roy and Lila Wallace ran their own privately held firm  from 1922 until they passed away in the 1980's. It was a special place that took amazing care of the employees and was loyal to an editorial ...

I read the events in the local paper and my jaw keeps dropping.  Two 13 year old boys in Chappaqua had their bake sale stand shut down for not having a permit. The police officers who had to stop the little venture were very polite, but the parents were incensed, and eventually the local paper filed a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request to find the complainant and it was actually a town councilman.    The councilman, Michael Wolfensohn, said he called the cops because he essentially didn't feel he could handle the situation himself. The press the case has now attracted has yielded the local politician some rather unwelcome attention, and he has admitted that he could have done things better in hindsight. The story has gotten legs, and he has gotten angry and threatening calls and ...

Chappaqua is a beautiful hamlet located in the town of New Castle in north central Westchester County. It is known, nominally, as the adopted home of the Clintons and Reader's Digest, and for being a idyllic, bucolic setting. New Castle abuts the Town of Ossining, and it is time to give the place a little more ink.  Vanessa Williams is a product of Chappaqua schools, and hails from nearby Millwood. (Ms. Williams, by the way, is THE most talented creature to ever wear the crown of Miss America, and is an extremely nice lady. She still lives in the area as far as I know, and when I was tending bar during my sabbatical way back when she was one of the patrons at Mediterraneo. I did not fix her a drink; she was nursing. If you ever see a re run of the 1984 Miss America pageant, Miss William...

I thought I should pass this along to my New York neighbors...           NYC Tackles Possible PCB Contamination in Schools   By Minara El-Rahman New York City and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have announced a pilot program that would look into the possible PCB contamination in building materials in public schools citywide.   The New York Times reports that there might be PCB contamination in the caulking around doors and windows of some city schools. Caulk is a flexible material used to seal gaps to make windows, door frames, masonry and joints in buildings and other structures watertight or airtight. At one time caulk was manufactured to contain PCBs because PCBs imparted flexibility. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Polychlorinated B...

One of the things I have heard in certain precincts is that while the overall market might be bad, some places are insulated from the bad economy and will continue to have a thriving market. One of the places mentioned is nearby Chappaqua, NY. Chappaqua is known for being the adopted home of the Clintons, but it is more than just that. It is a lovely hamlet with manageable proximity to Manhattan (on the Metro North Harlem Train Line & 45 minutes to Grand Central), beautiful homes on large lots, a highly regarded school district, and a charming downtown. So how did Chappaqua's 1st quarter of 2009 compare with the first quarter of 2008? Not very well, I am afraid. The following is the MLS data for single family home sales in the entire Chappaqua school district, which includes part of the...
