Take me out to the Ball game... There is still time to check out some August Baseball in New York City with the Mets.  Last weekend I visited Citi Field (I still like the name Shea Stadium) and sad to say they lost.  But I did catch one of the last concert series for the summer lineup, "Third Eye Blind" played and what a great show.  In fact, I think majority of those who attended the game really only came to see the band play haha.  If you are looking for cheap tickets you can try using your student ID, Military ID card or simply not mind sitting way, way up in the bleachers, where you still have a great viewing of the game. Christmas Season at Louis Armstrong House? Oh Yeah Louis Armstrong House Museum Christmas Tours Corona, NY 11368   “If anybody was Mr. Jazz it was Louis Armstrong. He was the epitome of Jazz and always will be. He is what I call an American standard, an American original.” --Duke Ellington   As stated on the Louis Armstrong House Museum website, “Louis Armstrong-the world’s most famous Jazz musician-was an international celebrity who could have lived anywhere. Yet in 1943, he and his wife Lucille settled in a modest house in Corona Queens, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. No one has lived in the house since the Armstrongs, and the house and its furnishings remain very much as they were during Louis and Lucille’s lifetime.” The Louis Armstrong House Museum gives tours o...

According to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, "The Hall of Science was built for the 1964 World's Fair. Today, the facility is New York City's only hands-on science and technology museum." Being a mom always on the search for something for the little people to do I found myself thinking, "Now how cool is that?"  After my turtle run in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, I am here to tell you it's awesome! There are NSA Rockets parked outside gleaming in the sunshine, people! Where else in New York City can a person casually stroll by such gorgeous out-of-this-world eye candy? (In my case, turtle run, but I digress...) This place is all about the kids -- check out the kid empowerment zone! If you want to schedule yourself a seriously fun play date with your children (and s...

Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was born in one of New Orleans' poorest areas in 1901. At the age of 16 he left New Orleans and joined his first band in search of stardom. Since the 1920s, Queens has seen the arrival of many jazz artists, including Armstrong, Fats Waller, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday . He is credited for starting an influx of historic jazz musicians into the borough - including Dizzy Gillespie - who lived around the corner from Armstrong. By 1937, he was a world-famous musician. Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong moved to his house in Corona in 1937 and resided there until his death on July 6, 1971. He left an enduring legacy in his adopted neighborhood of Corona. He could have lived anywhere he wanted, but he chose to live like a regular guy in Corona, Queens. He was elected to...
