Older architecture I love the old architecture, there is just so much to admire, such craftsmanship is not so evident these days; and why not? Cost. In Hudson New York you will be treated to a variety of older architecture, take these two builds for example.                         Buildings on Warren Street in Hudson NY

Olana a must see Hudson Valley Historic site .  This beautiful inspired Persian designed home is perched high above the Hudson River , and enjoy spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains. This was the home of Frederic Church a painter; and I must say for inspiration he picked the perfect spot for his house and studio.  Having visited Olana during each season I can understand why one would be mesmerized by the views down the Hudson River as well as those of the Catskill Mountain.  Fall is approaching and I can’t wait to see the fall foliage from up high at Olana. So where exactly is Olana?  It is located just minutes outside of the City of Hudson NY at 5720 Route 9G,  Hudson NY 12534.  There are a variety of ways to get to Olana, including by train.  There is an Amtrak station in Hudso...

Hudson NY is a popular Upstate destination for many reasons: Access to Amtrak station, located right in the city A variety of cuisines An antique Mecca Nightlife You can’t help admiring the variety of architectural styles, so it is not a surprise that New Yorkers have bought up many buildings in need of restoration and in many cases, have restored them back to the original condition. Because, real estate in Hudson NY is still relatively reasonably priced, hence the buying continues. Warren Street in Hudson NY reminds me of New York City, so, maybe it is not a surprise that many of the small business owners here moved up from the city. Hudson’s location is ideal. Hudson is halfway between Albany and Rhinebeck, which gives its residents additional options for participation in cultural act...

Speechless Sunday| How I long for the good old days For years I have passed this Hudson NY old brick house, I knew it was old by the type of brick as well as the old tin roof. I suspect in the good old days it was probably th residence of someone with a bit of money. Okay I don't know the real story I just made that up :) What I do know is that it was there before the cement factory. To the left of the house is an overpass which went directly to the cement factory, however, once the factory came about the old brick house no longer serviced the purpose of a residence. This home certainly long for the good old days.

Speechless Sunday-A unique traffic stop   This was a unique traffic stop I encountered on the grounds of Olana.  This is a well know historic site and since you get around mostly by walking this wooden structure was put in place to deter any motorist from driving through. I really like the way natural wood is utilized in this park - very noticeable in the fences and benches.   Jennifer Fivelsdal - JFIVE HOMES REALTY LLC - 845-758-6842- jennifer@jfivehomes.com  www.jfivehomes.com  or www.midhudsonhomevalue.com   Flickr | Facebook | Linked-in |Twitter |subscribe to Blog    Copyright © by Jennifer Fivelsdal, all rights reserved-Speechless Sunday-A unique traffic stop

When friends come to visit it gives a good excuse for taking time to enjoy the view.  Life can get busy and we sometimes don't get the time to truly appreciate the area in which we live.  Taking the time to do so keeps me excited about the area and helps me to convey the many highlights of the Hudson Valley to those who may be thinking of relocating.  This view from Olana never gets old, and is a great spot to bring guests that come to visit.   Jennifer Fivelsdal - JFIVE HOMES REALTY LLC - 845-758-6842- jennifer@jfivehomes.com  www.jfivehomes.com  or www.midhudsonhomevalue.com   Flickr | Facebook | Linked-in |Twitter |subscribe to Blog   Copyright © by Jennifer Fivelsdal, all rights reserved-Wordless Wednesday-I could daydream all day

This past Monday night I had to grap something to eat in Hudaon after spending the day at Columbia Memorial Hospital. I was with two of my daughters, future son-in-law, and wife. Some one sugguested the new American Bar-B-Que Restaurant on Warren Street in the Third Street block, so we went. The former firehouse has been completley done over and is beautiful. Two floors with a lot of brick. Someone knows more about the future of Hudson than I do. The drinks were very cool. At the bar the beer on tap were enclosed with cubes of frost and ice, very cool and so metro. Part of the dining was on the sidewalk and the place had an open air feeling, so Parisian. Upstairs there was more space and pool table, great for a party., so men's club. The burgers very great, the pulled pork was piled hig...

On Wednesday I posted pictures of Olana.  This shot was taken at Olana looking down at the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. The Rip Van Winkle Bridge connects Columbia County NY with Greene County NY.  The Rip Van Winkle crosses the Hudson River. An upcoming post is related to both Olana and Rip Van Winkle so stay tune. While waiting between appointments I decided to walk around Olana and get some updated shots.  Okay I am crazy about the Hudson Valley there is just so much to see. So What is Olana? Olana was the home of the famous Frederic Church a landscape painter from the Hudson Rivers School Of Arts.   Jennifer Fivelsdal- Associate Broker- Keller Williams Realty Team - 845-758-6842- jennifer@jfivehomes.com  and www.jfivehomes.com      SEARCH FOR HOMES IN THE HUDSON VALLEY

Free Ham Radio Classes begin March 4th at the Noecker66 showroom from 6 to 9 PM. Located at 92 Union Turnpike in Hudson NY. This seems to be a very popular past time. Several customers I have had looking at property have asked if a ham radio antenna can be erected in that area. Years ago when I was in elementary school and older neighboor had a ham radio and sometimes he would let a group of us in and listen to people talking all over the world. Fasinating for a young kid who thought "kick the can" was everything. If you have any questions call 518-828-7628  Remember if you don't call today, it will be tomorrow and you will have missed some of the fun of living here in Columbia County.

Inspired by others before me, I thought my first blog should be about where I live... Hudson, NY.  We looked for nearly a year and a half for our first home.  Living in California at the time, 80% of our looking was from a distance via MLS and various local realtor's websites.  When a house really struck our fancy we usually ended up contacting the listing agent signified in the ad.  We would ask endless questions and request MORE PHOTOS!  When the photos didn't suffice, or we couldn't piece the layout of the home together based on which way the shadows fell on the floor, we would enlist the help of my wife's mother and sister to tour for us.  Needless to say, that didn't last too long.  We stopped the madness and picked up the search once we trekked across the country ourselves. We had...

Yesterday I wanted to take a walk so my husband and son accompanied me to the grounds at Olana.  This is one of the most beautiful properties in the area sited high above the Hudson River.  With the leaves off the trees I had an awesome view not just of the Hudson River but also of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge which connects the Greeport area to the Catskills. What is Olana? It was once the home of Frederic Church of the Hudson River School of landscape painting.  And what a place to paint from; you couldn't  have asked for more spectacular views.  Church himself referred to the place as "The center of the world". This property is now a historic site and is available for tours.  If you are planing a trip to the area this is certainly a place to see.  And if you are an artist it is a must. ...
