Mi Estrella, Jackson Heights, Queens County, New York 89-19 Roosevelt Avenue  Jackson Heights, New York 11372 (718) 429-8973 Aunt Cindy and I took our Little Minions out for an early lunch to one of our fave places to eat. Our buddy, Mr. Chang, is a partner is this really cool Asian/Latin spot off the corner of Roosevelt and 89th in Jackson Heights called Mi Estrella. It's kid friendly and family oriented in a major shopping area, so street parking may be a little tricky on the week ends (LOL).  Mi Estrella translated from Spanish to English means "My Star." Being a Starr, I get a lot of mileage out of silly word play when it comes to meeting my peeps at this restaurant. Diners have 147 meals to choose from inclusive of 15 Latin and 37 Asian Specialty Dishes, not to mention 21 reall...

This flick is based on true events that took place in 1989. Like most of the Horrorfest releases, Borderland is basically a slight twist on an overdone formula. Borderland is a horrifying, coldblooded, borderline-mesmerizing thriller. On the eve of going their separate ways, three university friends from Texas decide to have one last "paint the town red" fling by crossing the border into Mexico. Their fun is cut short when one of them goes missing, snatched by a Satanic cult specializing in human sacrifice. The story line is based on a true-life and publicly available case. Gore hounds looking forward to unrated Hostel level shocks may be upset, but fans of fist-smashed faces will have plenty to celebrate. In a rare dark performance, Kevin Costner raises what might have been a normal crime movie with a twist involving his id into a superior human horror film. Where this movie succeeds is that you care about the film's sociopathic anti-hero, Earl Brooks. Mr. Brooks is a film that has two story lines. One of those storylines succeeds while the other is shaky. That weaker storyline belongs to Detective Atwood (Demi Moore), who offers an effective performance but whose character is never given the room to breathe. Mr. Brooks seems like a simple cat and mouse movie between a killer and a detective but it actually has multiple layers, one involving Earl Brook's daughter, the second involving the witness to one of Brook's crimes and the third involving a criminal Detective Atwood sent to prison ...

Ten years ago, I moved from the Bronx to Jackson Heights, and I have to say is a great neighborhood to lived.  Jackson Heigths, is only 20 minutes from Mid-Town Manhattan by mas transit,  7 minutes from La Guardia Airport, is close to major highways and bridges. Overall, is a great place to live, little by little a restaurant strip is developing alone Northern Blvd. and Major Banks and Retails are beginning to move in.
