Today is a special day, because August 5th was my Grandma Rose's birthday (Grandma is the one sitting with the dog, Avanti). She was the lioness of the household; loving, compassionate, and nurturing. Her door was always open for family, friends, and neighbors to stop by. Coffee and Italian pastries were in abundance and ready to be served. Yet, if you messed around with family, you needed to watch out! ;)The last few years Grandma stayed on Earth was challenging to watch and experience, as her mind slowly began to shut down, alongside with her physical health. The triggering of these events was due to the passing of mom in 2010. Provenzale (my grandpa) served in World War II and was in the 8th Air Force, 351st group stationed with Clark Gable with whom he and many others became friends with. Clark Gable's mission was to make a documentary on the war and it is called "Combat America."  My father was in many of the scenes and as a gift to my father, Mr. Gable presented him with an original 8 mm reel of the tape, something we still have. Peter always spoke so highly of him and my mother, Carole, had kept several old pictures of the two of them.
