I just commented on another post about the cold weather.  It's been a long winter already here in Western New York and we still have a few weeks to go before it gets better.  Reading that post reminded me of a question another inspector asked at a seminar a few years ago. He stood up and asked the speaker (who was from the south) how to better inspect during the winter and with snow covering everything.   After about 30 seconds or so, the speaker said with a straight face that he needed to tie a snow shovel to the top of his car and start driving south until someone asked what the heck is on the top of your car.  He told this poor guy - at that point you went far enough. He never did answer that question... I don't think he knew the answer. Here's to your best year ever, may everything ...

Buffalo Sabres win.  Sorry all you Dallas Star fans.  It was a great game.  I have some friends in the Dallas area and they called and emailed me today looking for a friendly wager.  At one point when the Sabres were down by 3 goals the emails started hitting my inbox, but I had the last laugh.  Sabres won in a shootout.  I couldn't wait to hit the send button after the game was over - I'll be in the Dallas / Fort Worth area in about 3 weeks for an awesome seminar and will be enjoying some ice cold "pops" on my Texas friends.  Cheers! At my morning inspection while in the driveway for introductions and my elevator speech, it happened again.  You know... we congratulate our client on their purchase and explain what is and isn't covered during the inspection and how we report our findings...and provide some basic rules, such as please don't touch anything in the home.  I've conducted over 3500 inspections and every once awhile a client feels compelled to ask me to find "X" amount of dollars in problems.  Today's client had no problem asking me to find $1000 worth of problems.  He told me that his agent told him that after the inspection they could go back to the seller and ask for a price reduction because of the problems found during the inspection. Man, I hate when this happens.  This is the point of the inspection p...

Weekly Maintenance Tip - Moderate your indoor humidity in winter Task:  If water condenses on your windows in winter, the problem might not be the windows - it might be that the house is just too humid. Humidity makes your home more comfortable in winter, but you can have too much of a good thing. When you see condensation on your windows in wintertime, it's a sign that you should lower the humidity level in your house. Otherwise, the water that condenses on your windows - not to mention inside your walls - can cause damage over a period of time. Here are a few suggestions for reducing humidity levels: 1.  Reduce moisture sources within your house:  Don't store firewood in the home Repair foundation leaks Turn your humidifier down or off Cover any exposed earth floor in a basement or cr...

Ok, my daughter was asking what I was doing and I mentioned to her that I was posting some information on Activerain.  Well, she caught me - Dad why are your not writing about my team.  So here it is - my daughter plays for the U10 Lockport Lightning girls travel team.  They are young, but play hard.  The girls team is made up of 8, 9 and 10 year olds.  Unlike her brothers team which is a true 10 year old team. (if you haven't figured it out yet, I have 10 year old twins)  The girls finished in second place in the fall league and are 1 - 1 so far in the winter season.  Like I said, they're young but play hard and they are going to have lots of fun this year. I'll keep everyone informed to the progress of the girls team as the season continues.  http://lockportsoccerclub.com/travel_socce...

I'm looking forward to 2009.  2008 proved to be a very rewarding year for me personally and in business.  Was it challenging - sure it was, but I'm fortunate to have a good track record in WNY as an inspector that communicates my findings fairly.  I also implemented several systems that assisted our clients and referring friends.  The end result was a good year that saw growth in my company and many new referring individuals sending clients to All Pro Home Inspection.  During the first days of 2009 as I visit real estate offices in my market to do the usual thing of check brochures, scheduling presentations, assisting agents with their marketing or assist them with any inspection issues, or just to say hi, I am finding a new attitude being displayed by many people.  There is a genuine s...

The LockportThunder U10 boys soccer team began the 2009 winter indoor league today with a strong effort and win against the U10 Amherst team.  My son plays for the U10 Lockport travel team.  This is the second season the boys as a group will play together.  They have worked hard during the fall practicing in school gyms every week getting ready for the 2009 soccer seasons ahead of them.  Coach Dave and Coach John have done a wonderful job teaching the boys the basic fundamentals of the game and sportsmanship.  I'll keep everyone posted every Sunday evening on the progress of the team.  Good luck Thunder in 2009.     www.allprohomeinspection.com

Hello - I finally found some time to get going in the community.  I look forward to building my profile and blog in the days to come.  It appears I have a great deal of reading and work ahead of me to make this successful.  I'm up for the challenge.  I also look forward to sharing information that might assist others in their business.  Talk care.
