On our final day in Phoenix, we headed back to the convention center for the Keynote Session.  The Keynote Speakers were to be the Tuohy Family.  Having seen the Blind Side I was fully aware of their story.  I was so looking forward to hearing them speak.   They were extremely funny which was unexpected.  Story after story had everyone laughing and laughing.  Their story of connecting with Michael and their lives going forward touched everyone in that auditorium.    Their message was to BE KIND.  Whatever you do each and every day, do it with kindness.  Pay it forward everyday.  Help someone because they need it - not because it will do something for you.  They are truly an inspirational family and did a wonderful thing that day when they took a young boy home.  Seeing them in person wa...

It is always great to see other members in the Rain.  However due to health or craziness in our business I don't always get to see the people I would like to see on a regular basis.  Debbie Gartner is one of those people.  She is just far enough away that when I hop in the car to go see her it becomes an all day affair or at least a good portion of it and vice versa for her.  So when I thought she could help with something I had going on I reached out to her and she accepted without even blinking.  How many people with crazy busy lives will do that for you on spur of the moment?  That is the beauty of Active Rain and our friendships/family.  Even though we don't get to see each other much lately and we talk whenever we can - when we do see each other it is like it has been only a few da...

Saturday morning February 15, 2014 after days and days of snow and ice we were headed to the airport for Keller Williams Family Reunion in Phoenix, Arizona.  24 hours prior we had gotten almost two feet of snow and thousands of flights were canceled.  People that were headed to Family Reunion on Friday were searching airports to find another flight after theirs was canceled.  Some were successful but many were not.  We were among the lucky and our flight was still on schedule at Newark Airport.  As we began to filter in for our flights, unfortunately one of our team took a bad fall on black ice at Newark Airport.  It took forever to get any help as the "airline" people don't have anything to do with this sort of thing so by the time we got any help it was already time to get through sec...

I was watching the news last night and heard that the CVS Drugstore Chain which happens to be the country's largest, is going to stop selling tobacco products.  Kudos to them for taking the step that everyone else has been afraid to take!  Yes, they believe it will bring them more business in the end but isn't going the way of a more healthful store what we want for our kids and grand kids anyway?  I myself have never been a smoker but have seen people I care about succumb to lung disease and other illnesses directly related to the use of tobacco products.  I have a friend having a lung transplant tomorrow.  Did these people have a choice?  Absolutely, however as most of the smokers know once you start it is almost impossible for some people to stop, in fact millions across the world ca...

Last week we attended a 16th birthday party for the child of one of our dearest friends.  When we arrived (as we were a little late) it was the "cocktail hour" for the teens and the adults. We knew then it was going to be a big event.  The family and birthday girl were getting their pictures taken.  Once that was done we entered the ballroom and took our seats. The DJ started the music and the teens hit the floor!  It was like being at a wedding.  We all had a wonderful time as did the teens.  Since our daughter is much older I was wondering if this is more common practice now for the teens when they turn 16?  Some of them had surprises prepared with speeches and one even sang as a surprise.  It was a very touching event.  We were so happy to have been there!

For the past few weeks we have had some strong winter weather and extremely low temperatures.  Luckily we have finally had a break in that weather but it looks like more snow and colder temperatures are headed our way again.  Have you done all the winterizing you need to keep your home warm and energy efficient for the rest of the winter season?  Below is a quick video to offer you some tips on winterizing your home.

Recently I got to the movies unexpectedly.  My husband wanted to see Lone Survivor and I didn't recognize the title.  I asked who was in it and he said Mark Wahlberg so I was fine with the movie.  I love Mark Wahlberg, I think he is a terrific actor whether in a comedy or a drama.  WELL...if you haven't seen this movie and are thinking about it you may want to rethink it.  It is not for the faint of heart.  I didn't realize until I was halfway through the movie that I already knew this story.  I had seen it on either 60 Minutes or 20/20 in great detail.  I spent the whole 2nd half of the movie in tears.  This movie is based on the true story of what happened to 4 navy seals on a mission in Afghanistan (as well as others) in 2005.  I know many, many people in the armed forces and this mo...

My friend has a new puppy and I was trying to take her picture the other day and she would not hold still for a second!  Out of 20 pictures this is the only picture that was relatively clear and was not of her rear end, or just a portion of her as she flew by.

Last night we got our first storm of the new year. There was sleet most of the day and then it snowed about 6-8 inches on top of that.  What's different, it is about 5-8 degrees below zero with the wind chill.  As a result the snow is like powder, you could blow it with a leaf blower.  Usually when we get snow it is wet and very heavy as it warms up right before the storm or during.  Due to the weather New York and New Jersey are in a state of emergency and they have asked people to stay off the roads if possible.  Everyone stay safe and warm!

While driving to appointments today I noticed a house here and there that had decorations that stood out.                             Houses that looked extra festive with more than your average pumpkin on the front doorstep.                       Seeing things like this makes me very happy.  I love the imagination that people put into making their homes look festive.

New York State is taking steps to provide breast cancer early detection and prevention programs for all New York women, including those who don’t yet have insurance. There is no doubt that early detection can save lives, and New Yorkers are encouraged to be proactive about check-ups and screenings, as well as to educate themselves about breast cancer.    Click here for ways to reduce your risk for breast cancer and to learn more about breast cancer screening and prevention.   Uninsured women should call the NYSDOH Cancer Services Program at 1-866-442-CANCER (2262) or click here to find a free cancer screening in your community.   In July 2012, the Governor signed legislation that was designed to help improve breast cancer detection and prevention by requiring mammography services to inf...

I was looking for something this morning and came across this picture.  This was from one of the last Active Rain gatherings I was able to go to.  As I was leaving everyone was peeling off their name tag and sticking it on my Daytimer.  Ahhh good times...!  Now some of the sames are hard to figure out with no last name but then there are the other names that need no last names just like the names Cher or Madonna!  Care to guess some of these?

Last week my hubby and his siblings took their mom for something she has been wanting to do for a long time.  Me, not so much, so it worked out when I had to work and wasn't feeling that great anyway.  We don't live far from CBK Mountain Adventures which is Camelback Mountain where you can Zip line, go to the Camelback Waterpark and many other fun things. It was a beautiful day and they were all looking forward to riding the zip line. Zip lining has been used as a method of transportation in mountainous countries for many years.  The jungles of Costa Rica and Nicaragua are very popular for their zip lining.  Below is a video of the world's most extreme zip line in Nepal.  When you get to Camelback there is a bus that takes you up the mountain and it takes almost an hour to get you to th...

It's been a great market lately....and if you haven't experienced the increase in sales, it's certainly happening here in NY!  All over the place.  The amazing thing is the demand is brining higher sales prices than recent years in the past!  It's great news for Sellers, and it's still great news for Buyers, who are looking to get moved into a new home with lower interest rates!

I made it out to the movies this weekend and went to see the new movie World War Z.  I had wanted to see the new Sandra Bullock movie but it wasn't playing near me so we headed to the movies right up the street last minute and this is what we were able to get in to. (Quite a big difference I found out!) I had no idea what this movie was about so when it started I realized right away it was not really a movie for little kids.  If you have little ones (or big ones too) with nightmare issues this is NOT the movie for them! Within five minutes of the movie starting it is action action action!  My biggest surprise was that this was a zombie movie.  I would never have expected to see Brad Pitt in a zombie movie.  I am not a "zombie" movie goer but I thought the movie was pretty good.  It defi...
