As a kid I always loved having a live Christmas tree - I loved the look and smell of the tree.  It was such fun to go out and pick out a tree each year, whether we went to a place and cut it down or even just to buy one off the Christmas tree lots.  As I got older and had to take care of it myself it was kind of messy after Christmas to try and remove the tree and and the needles as they fell off etc... so I became less opposed to the fake trees. The newer fake trees look just like the live ones and create no mess at all.  I also love the idea of being able to save the trees any way possible.     Real Christmas Trees vs. Fake Christmas Trees: Which are Greener? How do real Christmas trees and fake Christmas trees stack up when it comes to the environment and cost? We’ve got the dirt. R...

I broke my ankle this week. It's another of those events that makes you so grateful for those times when you feel well and everything on your body works properly.  It's also a time that makes you realize how quickly your life can change!  One minute, your bones are fine, and the next, snap! I took our Siberian Husky out in the woods behind our home this past Thursday evening so she could do her duty.  When she was done and we were turning around to go back into the home, she pulled me in a direction I wasn't prepared for.  I'm not sure exactly what happened, but somehow my body went one way and my foot another.  I lost my balance, and as I was falling, I heard a SNAP.  I landed on the ground, in the dark, in a bit of pain, with a 50 pound dog still attached to the leash on my arm.  I ro...

I am not a skier or a hang glider but doing this is DEFINITELY not for me.  Unbelievable what some people do for fun.  The view is amazing but it looks like he comes so close to the cliffs at speeds of 100 miles per hour or more.  Definitely a sport where you have to have nerves of steel.  Would love to hear what others do that comes close to things like this.

I recently read Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck which is the first book in a series of four.  My friend had been bugging me to read it for over a year but I didn't have it in my hands so was never in any hurry to look at it.   After finishing it I have to say it is one of the best books I have read in awhile.  It is the story of a woman who after working with a circus as a summer job before college is asked to travel to India with a tiger from the circus who has been sold.  After arriving in India she learns that the tiger is a man who has been turned into a tiger as the result of a curse 300 years ago.  She goes on a quest with the tiger to try and undo this curse.  When I first heard from my friend about the book I really thought this wasn't for me but after reading this first book I c...

I came across an article recently discussing wallpaper that was pictures of books.  It is apparently becoming quite popular to use this theme in borders, as striping and in full wallpaper.   Being a book lover myself I was kind of intrigued by the idea as it had never occurred to me before.  After all, why would you want a picture of a book when you could have the real thing?  The pictures vary from magazines, paperbacks, bright colored books for children to the ultra elegant classic works of literature.  I guess if used in the right room in the right way it would look fabulous but to me nothing is as good as the real thing.  After all;  "A room without books is like a body without a soul" - Marcus T. Cicero

I was coming from an appointment the other day when I passed a house with this in their front yard as a decorative piece.  I love when people display things like this.  It was out in the middle of a huge front yard and it makes you wonder who owned it when it was brand new and through the years.  This was probably used on a huge farm that is now no longer in existence in either Orange or Sullivan County, New York.  A piece of history that adorns someone's front yard who may or may not have had a family member who used this on a daily basis years ago.    Photos by Debra Walsh, Copyright © 2011 Debra Walsh. About 2-3 weeks ago one of my Twitter buds asked me if I thought putting my listings on Twitter was effective.  I told this person that so far it hadn't proven beneficial but I believe in covering all the bases and and would continue to do so.  Well today I had an appointment with someone who found me and one of my listings on Twitter.  I also have another one coming up as a result of Twitter as well.  So for those teetering on whether or not to jump in, come on in the water is fine!

Well it has been a long week but a good week.  It looks like I am on the mend so that is definitely good news.  So now that I am able to laugh again (in small doses)  :-)   I came across this video and thought I would share it because it had me cracking up.   I love animals and I love to watch little kids do funny things.   I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did.  Have a great weekend!

In Red Bank, New Jersey this week Jon Bon Jovi's pay what you can for charity restaurant has opened for business.  Called "Soul Kitchen" this restaurant is designed to help feed the hungry without the stigma of a regular soup kitchen for the homeless or hungry.  There will be no prices on the menu and diners will pay what ever they can afford to pay.  If they cannot afford to pay that will be okay too.  As long as those who can't afford to pay are willing to work in the restaurant or do some type of community service. The restaurant will be operating out of a former auto body shop near the Red Bank train station.

This past Saturday, October 15th, I was supposed to walk in the "Light The Night" walk for Leukemia.  Unfortunately as most of you know I was extremely ill over the last month or so.  Thank goodness I am on the mend and didn't want to miss this event because it is a very important cause.  I was able to be there and observe the event but unfortunately was not able to do the walk even though I tried because I am still just too short of breath.  The attendance was fabulous and the amount of money that was raised was wonderful.  We don't have the final tallies yet but it looks like I might have raised the most money in our Keller Williams office.  For those out there who may be looking for an organization who needs your support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society does amazing things with dona...

Back when Rise of the Planet of The Apes came out (a few months ago) I went to see this movie kicking and screaming.  I am not a fan of the previous Planet of the Apes movies.  I know that will illicit a lot of booooos from die hard fans but I just never liked any of the movies.  I found them boring and just too violent with not much of a believable story.  (for me anyway)  As a result I was definitely not looking forward to seeing this movie.  What a surprise this movie was.  I loved it from beginning to end.  The trailer below depicts what looks like an incredibly violent ape dominant movie and it is very deceiving.  Rise of The Planet of The Apes was excellent and I would even see it again when it comes out on DVD.  It tells the story of a scientist developing a cure for Alzheimer's ...
