In a telling sign, applications for mortgage refinancing climbed 21 percent last week, while home loan purchase applications fell 8.5 percent according to NYDailyNews.com. "There are about 18.5 million households that should be in the hunt to refinance," says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's. This is really no surprise, as mortgage applications continue to jump up as mortgage rates stay at record lows. Really, rates haven't been this low since Eisenhower was president in the 50s! So is refinancing right for you? Historic Low New York Mortgage Rates Evaluate your financial situation and see if refinancing is the right choice (it probably is). Feng Shui decorations vs. Decorating with Feng Shui by Feng Shui New York consultant Laura Cerrano photo by Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui Long Island NY Many times you will hear about Feng Shui as being a form of Design and Decoration.  Yes this is very true and is part of Feng Shui.  But, originally Feng Shui was utilized for more spiritual purposes.  Feng Shui is a way of life. Bedroom designed with the Feng Shui Principles to enhance personal relationships When Feng Shui was first introduced to the "western" world (the United States of America) it was a intense new way of perceiving life for our culture and society.  In Feng...

The Financial District is more than just about Wall Street - and the New York Stock Exchange - and the Federal Reserve - although that in and of itself is pretty darn amazing.  To see where this country's major financial decisions are made is just a little bit impressive, not to mention all the other cultural and architectural sites.       And then there is Trinity Church and St. Paul's Chapel, 2 historic churches in lower Manhattan now best-known for being close to the World Trade Center and surviving the destruction.       Then there is where George Washington bid an emotional farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolutionary war--Fraunces Tavern, now a museum located at 54 Pearl Street, at Broad Street.     But the most moving part of the Financial District - where no visit co...

Seeing Ellis Island was an incredible experience.  As an immigrant myself - albeit to Canada and as a baby - It gave me goosebumps walking through the museum and hearing the stories. Later I asked my daughter Rachel what her favorite part of our visit to New York was, and she said "Ellis Island".  Interesting eh? Admission is free, part of a two stop ferry trip to the Statue of Liberty and well worth taking. From watching and listening to video/audio testimonials of Ellis Island immigrants, to viewing their bunk areas, to where and how the medical exams took place, and seeing the great hall once crowded with men women and children, to perusing the ships' mandates with list upon list of immigrants desiring nothing better than to start a new life in 'America'.... a not to be forgotten - e...

French soccer star Thierry Henry has just bought a penthouse in New York City for  $9 million, reports NYDailyNews.com. The recently-signed New York Red Bulls star purchased a fancy five-floor, triple-bedroom suite that should help Henry feel right at home in his new city. The new pad features two steam showers in the master bedroom. Not too shabby, right? Ok, so most of us can’t afford a $9 million apartment in SoHo. And we’re probably not thinking about making any huge financial investments. Most of us are still cutting back (as we should be). But, there is good news, though!   Refinance with New York Home Loans If you’re going to wait out the economic storm, mortgage rates are at record lows. Really, rates haven’t been this low since the very first McDonalds restaurant opened. No one...

She didn't want to go - but I managed to drag my daughter Rachel on a 90 minute train ride (each way) to Coney Island - and it was fabulous!  I have to admit - stop after stop after stop I was starting to worry and hoped there would be something cool awaitin us and we weren't disappointed. Coney Island became a resort after the Civil War and when the steam trains connected Brooklyn to Manhatten via the Brooklyn Bridge at the beginning of the 20th century, Coney Island went from being a resort to a great day-tripping destination.  From between about 1880 and World War II, Coney Island was the largest amusement area in the United States, attracting millions of people every year and in its hey day it had 3 huge amusement parks, Luna Park, Dreamland and Steeplechase Park.  Today three rides...
