Newburgh NY ~~ The First Snowstorm of Winter   Snow is never my favorite topic, but it does interfere in my life so of course the first storm of winter 2012 would be something to chat about. It appears that Mayor Bloomberg of NYC also thought the same way. Not sure why as we only had about 4 inches here in Newburgh, and less in Manhattan. It would seem the NEWS  had nothing much else to speak of with the exception of the weather and how the snowplows were doing their thing. The press was making this small storm sound like a storm of the century. I just shut off the TV and that ended the torture. Of course when a storm is over there is always the temptation to get out of the house to see just what mother nature left behind. The temperature is cold and venturing out a bit painful until I ...

Search New Homes ~~ Newburgh NY    Many buyers are out there looking to purchase a new home. The weather this winter has been remarkably dry and snow free. With temperatures above normal for so much of the winter, it has been easy for buyers to get around and look at just what homes are available for sale.  New Construction homes are always a favorite. The inventory of new construction homes that are complete and available is quite limited. These few that are built and not already sold are loaded with options. The value of a new home is amazing.  When purchasing a resale home updates and changes are always inevitable. Buy now, and fix after. Two things happen with that strategy. After the ordeal of moving and getting settled, projects seem to take the backseat for years. The other scen...

Newburgh, Was That The First Snow of the Season?   While Newburgh, New York had a major snow storm this past October, it was just that…in October.  It was a snowstorm that graced us a few weeks early for it to actually be  considered winter.  Enormous as it was, and with the amount of damage that it caused, the storm was still considered to have happened in autumn. It is now January 17th and the first few flakes of the winter were falling last night. If you blinked an eye you missed the flakes falling.  With the temperature so low though, the surfaces were covered almost instantly. A blanket of the tiny white stuff, quickly covered just about everything here.  Snow in Newburgh is not uncommon most winters. In parts of the Hudson Valley we average 40 something inches each and every year....

Life on the Hudson River - Newburgh, NY   One of the magical things about the Historic City of Newburgh is that even during a busy day in our hectic modern lives you turn a corner and a beautiful visage is right before you. The sun hits the water every afternoon at just about 3pm and from the west coast and shines on the mountains and the church steeple with beautiful contours.  Even in the winter months we are enchanted by this picturesque setting that reminds us an early spring is just around the corner. At least I hope it will be an early spring. We have been lucky enough to have almost no snow this winter. Even so, with naked trees and the lack of color the sun fills in to make the river ever so beautiful each and every day. A simply stunning day with abundant sunshine makes me s...

NO Snow is Making Me Happy With the winter well underway, we have been most fortunate to have temperatures in Newburgh this weekend as well as this past week, that have been above normal. The fact is we have been experiencing some fabulous weather for those of us that are not fond of snow all this winter. The four seasons all have their special attributes, but winter with the cold and ice is not my favorite. Newburgh, New York usually will have about 40 plus inches of snow in the winter. This winter we not had any so far in this area. Weather has been a bit unusual for many parts of the country and Newburgh is certainly seeing that trend. We had a major blizzard this past October that put a good deal of the population in winter mode before the leaves even fell off the trees. Unusual w...

Start Your Day Each Morning with a Smile and a Sunrise      When looking for a home in Orange County New York, would you consider purchasing a home on the river? Living on the west coast of the Hudson River has the special advantage of providing you with a fabulous sunrise. What could be more beautiful or picturesque than living close to a body of water? When I first started real estate the broker I was with would talk at great lengths of the value of land and different homes frequently. Of course, this was a real estate office. He was attempting to enlighten my perception of price and value though. These two features can be very different. The market at that time was heading upward, and just about anything was selling. He talked about value and how not to make a mistake of location whe...

Quality of Life and When Should You Buy a Home? Are you in the market for a new home? Or are you looking to sell your home and want the best price? If so, how often do you wonder if the housing market has hit bottom? Are you watching the stock market hoping for some gains for the year? The housing market affects how the country goes forward from this recession. Pundits talk and talk about what has happened, what could happen, and they attempt at a prediction of what will happen and when. Nobody seems to agree and time keeps marching on and on.  If you are on the sidelines and looking for a place to live you wonder if the time is now, and second if you can make it work for you. A big part of the leap into home ownership is how to find out just where you fit into the picture. Putting all...

Community Candle Lighting Ceremony Newburgh, New Windsor & Cornwall, New York The Festival of Lights A Schedule for Chanukah Candle Lighting:  December 20, 21,22, 2011 The miracle of Chanukah occurred many years ago in a time when there were rules about certain religious practices being illegal. In order to enforce these rules, a tragedy resulted in the destruction of a major religious temple. This temple that the Jews worshiped in daily was basically destroyed. After all was thought to be lost, a small urn of oil was found.  This holy oil was only enough for one day to be used on the altar. The miracle was that it lasted for eight days. During this time of oppressions the people saw that the darkness of the time turned into light and thus giving the people a sense of hope for the f...

Hudson Valley Restaurants: My Top Ten Favorites!  Okay… so I’m a vegetarian here in the Hudson Valley. We are few, but we are not people that just eat lettuce and cucumbers all day. Rabbit food is for rabbits. Good food is what I love! My husband is not a vegetarian, so we look for restaurants that feature great choices and value. Not many restaurants here are strictly vegetarian, so we look for those that are just “vegetarian friendly”.  It works for us, and these are my Top Ten Favorites! 10.  Cosimo’s Restaurant & Pizza   A great Italian Restaurant which features dinners and Oven Fired Pizza.  Good wine selection too! My favorite here is the Margarita Pizza and Half Salad!1217 Route 300 Union Avenue, Newburgh, NY  845-567-1556 9.  China Green- When looking for quick Chinese food thi...
