Oyster Bay, NY Real Estate News

Mill Neck, NY is a village next to Oyster Bay and not all homes on Mill Neck, NY 11765 zip code are in the million dollar price range.  The area that is called Mill Neck is a whole mix of areas.  There are few streets very close to Oyster Bay which have a Mill Neck zip code and comparatively speaking have smaller houses on small property. Renville Ct. has a Mill Neck zip code but I will consider those as part of Oyster Bay.   It is on the boundary of Oyster Bay and Mill Neck.  Then there is the area called Mill Neck Estate which also have smaller lots and close to Bayville Bridge but mid-priced homes.  The rest are all located in what I will call the Mill Neck proper which has big mansions on huge properties.  Mill Neck is a lovely community with rolling hills and magnificent waterview ...

Come and join the Msgr. James E. Collins Memorial Choir of St. Dominic Church in Oyster Bay for the Tenebrae Service on Holy Wednesday, March 31 at 7:30 PM at St. Dominic Chapel.  What is a Tenebrae Service?  It is an ancient liturgy.  Tenebrae is a latin word for shadow or darkness.  According to St. Dominic Church bulletin, "Tenebrae is a dramatic way of tracing out progressively the struggles between the dark forces of sin and death that seems to extinguish the Light of the World.  The evocative setting of St. Dominic Chapel, the candles, the readings from the passion story by the lectors and contemplative sacred music from the choir will make the evening a memorable start for the parish's Holy Week journey." It is the most moving service of the Holy Week.  The purpose of the Tenebra...

As of March 16, 2010, there are 59 homes for sale in Oyster Bay, NY.   4 properties has been sold in Oyster Bay since the beginning of the year in 2010 compared to 3 properties sold in Oyster Bay in 2009 for the same period.  In addition to 4 properties that closed, there are also 4 properties that are now under contract.  Average days on the market are 162 days.  Sales of homes in Oyster Bay are picking up but prices are still going down.  There is no new construction.    Few years ago, the town imposed a building moratorium after a builder tore down the Youngs family home on Burtis Ave and Kellogg St. and built 3 huge houses on the property.  Next to it, another house, a small red Dutch colonial was sold and was torn down and in its place another huge house stands now.  These new ho...

The Feng Shui of a Long Island NY Home   Doing a Feng Shui Consultation on a Long Island NY home, we never know exactly what we're going to find.  Long Island has homes that range in price from about $200,000 to multi-million dollar mansions in the Hamptons or the North Shore of Long Island. One of our "toney" areas of Long Island NY homes is in Oyster Bay New York.  It is on the North Shore of Long Island and it's where Teddy Roosevelt had his very own home built, calling it "The OTHER White House." I do encourage my Long Island and New York City Feng Shui Clients to give Feng Shui a TRY but the advice I can give is only general.....there are so many levels of Feng Shui that each Feng Shui Consultation needs to be personalized specifically for each client. There are also MANY books on...

The first day of the year is always a day of roses and music for me.  I watch the Tournament of the Rose parade in the morning and then the New Year's Celebration in Vienna in the evening.  This is probably the only day I watch TV most of the day.  I don't usually watch TV but on New Year Day, I indulge myself.   I was awed by the spectacular rose parade this morning and the flowers on those floats were phenomenal and beautiful, I could almost smell the fragrance.  Capt. Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger was the Grand Marshall and the theme this year is "Cut Above the Rest" which fits the bill for the pilot who landed his plane on the Hudson River and saved all 155 passengers.  Last year, I posted a blog on the history of the Tournament of Roses Parade.  Here is the link to it: http://acti...

This is my 40th year of celebrating Thanksgiving with my family in the United States.  It started after I got married to an American and I had Thanksgiving dinner with his mother and my brother who got a free turkey from his office.  Since my brother was a bachelor, he gave me the turkey to cook.  We lived in New York City at that time.  From that small beginning, my family grew.  My other brother came from abroad, then my younger brother followed him.  Then they all got married and have their children.    For the first 30 years, I cooked the Thanksgiving dinner and we had it at my home.  The first year, we had it at my apartment on E. 86th St. in New York.  Then we moved to Long Island the following year. My brother would meet my husband at Penn Station and handed him the turkey on T...
