Wine barrels at Greig Farm Yesterday while visiting the Hudson Valley Farmer's Market at Greig Farm;  I saw these wine barrels which reminded me that the barn was once home to a winery.  It made me think about spaces I have seen transformed over the years, and now and then a remnant of the old tenant is left behind.  And in this case the wine barrels were a remnant of a winery at Greig Farm.    Copyright © By Jennifer Fivelsdal of JFIVE Homes Realty LLC, all rights reserved -Wine barrels remnant of a winery

Buying a house in Red Hook - Is it located down a shared Driveway? When buying a house in Red Hook there is much to consider.  What if the house you fell in love with is located down a shared driveway? Depending on your need for privacy and the type of interaction you want to have with the neighbors you should give some thought to this subject. Is  the driveway agreement written in the deed? In some cases the easement is written clearly in the deed in other cases it is not so clear. Who will pay for the maintenance of the shared driveway? Each homeowner sharing the driveway will contribute funds for maintenance.  There is usually some sort of homeowners association. Will everyone contribute the same amount? If your house is at the beginning of the driveway you will pay less than the per...

Buying a home in Red Hook- Will you be okay with a well and septic? Are you thinking of buying a home in Red Hook NY? Maybe you are from a city area and the water sytem was managed by the city.  For waste there was a sewage system. When you start looking for a house in Red Hook you will probably run across wells and septic.  There are a few areas where you will find a private water and waste syatem but that is just a small subset of available properties. So, what is a drilled well?  It is a hole drilled into the ground to produce water for the home.  A well pump is usually installed in the basement of the home to pump the water.  The well will be the responsibilty of the homeowner. Things to do with your well. Periodic tests to check for contaminants Period checkups by a qualified well ...

The little red roof barn with a personality Photo by Jennifer Fivelsdal of JFIVE Homes Realty I saw this little barn with a red roof when I was stopped at a stop sign.  It sure looked like it had been around for a while and with years had developed a personality' I couldn't stop thinking about what was stored in it, but I will never know.

I was taking a walk one evening when suddenly there was this ball of fire through the trees.  It is amazing how many types of sunsets we can enjoy, and in so many  different settings. The sun is everywhere, and a sunset can bring joy to so many across the world. What a wonderful resource.

If you are buying a home in Red Hook NY one question is where will you work?I consider Red Hook more of a bedroom community. Most of the businesses in town are small businesses. From what I can see, the largest employers in Town are the Red Hook Central School District, Bard College and Devereux.Other major employers in nearby Rhinebeck are the Northern Dutchess Hospital along with several healthcare groups and the Rhinebeck School District. What type of work will you be looking for?Depending on your field, you might have to consider commuting. Many commute about 30-40 minutes to Poughkeepsie, the County seat, where the County offices are located along with Marist and Vassar colleges, IBM, Central Hudson, St. Francis and Vassar Brothers hospitals , Rhinebeck Bank headquarters and other i...

JUST RENTED This is a converted barn.  I personally love converted barns and this would have been an ideal apartment for me if I was looking for a rental. Almost 1000 square feet, a very spacious bedroom, 1.5 bath, and a great room. Right off the bedroom is a lovely deck, a place to relax.  There is also a heated shed, equipped with a window AC  ideal space for the hobbyist. I also liked the fact this space is tucked away and surrounded by trees. Great location too, just 10 minutes to the village of Rhinebeck.     ______________________________________________________ If you are looking for a rental ….. A rose after the frostLooking out my window this morning I was surprised to see pink where a rose bush was located.  No it couldn't be, we already had a frost.  It  must have been a mirage.I put my shoes on and went down for a closer look, to my delight it was indeed a rose.   As you can see it is not spectacular but I was really impressed that this rose made it through a frost.  Who knew a rose was that hardy.    Copyright © by Jennifer Fivelsdal, all rights reserved- A rose after the frost
