THE LOST ART OF PUMPIN CARVING...* Last year I found out there was a major offering of pumpkins on the back roads here in the Hamptons--there were farm stands and little pumpkin patches that the local farmers were selling pumpkins from and these were the most beautiful, big orange pumpkins you will ever see.   One farmer, though, went to the extra effort of hiring someone who was well known for carving pumpkins; he would carve faces in them as they were sold to a child or adult---These pumpkins were the most wonderful works of art and I swore I would come back this year and have him carve my pumpkin for me! The Hamptons in the Fall!...Nothing quite like it! Those of us who live here, in the Hamptons, year round are the luckiest of all!!! We get to be here during the most beautiful and delicious time of year: Harvest Season. September and October is when the crowds are gone, the weather is perfect, the colors take on a vastly different hue and the time to pick pumpkins has arrived! On the way to Bridgehampton from Southampton is Water Mill.  Every Fall, Pumpkin farms, located along the stretch of Route 27 open up to the public and create an environment that children never forget! Hundreds of cars park along the highway and the children are allowed to run free within the wire fencing that surrounds the grounds.  The fields are overflowing with Pumpkins and wooden castles, trains, old pirate ... 10/07/2010
