Another of Upstate NY's Tech Valley businesses is making good headlines, again. A local Watervliet, NY based branch of the Norton/Saint-Gobain company has been helping the USA Luge team for years by supplying the industrial-grade sandpaper used during the Olympics on the USA Luge sled's steel runners.  The rules of the race do not allow the steel runners to heat up too much between races, and this particular sandpaper has the ability to sand without causing too much friction. But, according to today's Times Union article, "two and a half years ago, workers in Watervliet got some of their metallurgy scientists to work in conjunction with USA Luge to create a new steel "secret recipe".  This recipe was passed on to U.S. Steel, which created new runners for the USA Luge team."
