Now, this was lucky.  One of my customers found my blog, and she is selling her home in Yonkers.  It had been on the market for a year and they decided to take a break, make some improvements and switch agents. She had some old carpeting upstairs and the dog ripped up some of it.  Well it turns out she has hardwood underneath, so we refinished the hardwood on the 2nd floor and steps - wow, what a difference. Last Friday, I made a few new friends.  Not of the human variety – my new pals had feathers and seemed to enjoy  spending their time time soaring above the Hudson River near the Yonkers NY waterfront. Sometimes you learn about something new when you don’t expect to. I was at the Yonkers Waterfront between appointments the other day – and enjoying the blazing hot sunshine.  I don’t get to this location all that often so I hadn’t noticed “The Science Barge” before. The Science Barge  is a sustainable urban farm that serves the dual purpose of being an educational center.  It is a functioning sustainable food production system and demonstrates the power of renewable energy.   They grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce with no net carbon emissions, no pesticides and no runoff. As many of you know, I LOVE pets.  I grew up with a dog and a cat, and now I have 2 cats of my own (which incidentally came from one of my customers).  i've always loved dogs and cats and they seem to love me back.  Not sure why.  Maybe it's because I'm short (and therefore closer to their height) or maybe they like the tone of my voice, or maybe they smell my cats,  or maybe it's because I pay special attention to them when I enter the home.  After all, if it's a dog, that's the one that first greets me. This was exciting.  I went to go see a customer today to Refinish her hardwood floors and she found us on HGTV.com.  I was pleasantly surprised (especially since I hadn't registered on their site...at least as far as I know).  Apparently, they now have an option where you can find contractors (or all types) near your zip code. ...And, you can sort the ratings and reviews (which is what this customer did).  She told me that even though I was further away, she specifically wanted to meet with me.  Here's what she found. Here's one from the other side of the closing table, where I represented buyers on a 5-month odyssey to purchase a short sale in Yonkers. It made me appreciate the waiting game that buyers must endure, and how valuable status updates are to home purchasers of a short sale in order to stay engaged and committed to the purchase. Buyers need to be updated to, among other things, time their mortgage application, appraisal, and rate lock. Note that I did not say anything about ordering title work.
