Watching the local news I was proud to hear how the Avon Lake Schools were applauded for using the National School Safety Grant funds they were rewarded for a computerized mapping system showing every school hallway, every room, and every closet where a gunmen could hide. The money that was provided to a number of local school systems have apparently not been seen put to use.  However, Avon Lake was one of the 152 schools pointed out to have used the funds accordingly to have visual monitoring systems and other safe guards put in place for the local students. Avon Lake Police have reported that this has been an outstanding addition to the schools and feels now more confident in being able to safely monitor students. Just a local reminder that Halloween will be celebrated by our local kids Thursday night.  The date was changed from Friday because of the anticipated football game.  The playoff game will actually be in the Medina Highland area but at the time it was not certain as whether the game was going to be local or not so plans were made two weeks prior to avoid risk of traffic problems. As always Halloween starts around 6:00pm and will go till 800pm. Please make sure to take your flashlight and bundle those kids warm (it is going to be a cold one). Some Halloween safety tips..   Know the route your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them. The best bet is to make sure that an adult is going with them. Avon Lake has grown over the last 20 years to 2 times its population and with that there have been some significant improvements from education to city operations.  However the recreation has just recently seen a need for improvement in public areas such as the local city pool.  Right not there is push to place on the ballot a new much larger pool.   The pool will include two 25 foot water slides, a zero depth entry area (similar to what see at the Lakewood YMCA) and an expanded concession stand.  This improvement is much needed at the point now that the pool is getting so crowded and outdated.  Ther is a town meeting on September 17 at 7pm at the Old Firehouse to kick off the planning for getting the plans on the ballot. The citizens for Avon Lake Pool could really get the support and... 09/08/2008

                 On my latest builders warranty home inspection this hardwood maple flooring has cupped along the doorway of the sliding glass door off the kitchen. The cupping of the boards is a result of moisture penetration from underneath the door. This sliding glass door more than likely was not properly sealed when the framer installed the doors. Also, the flashing for the ledger board was missing where the steps are attached to the home.  The remedy is to have the flashing installed for the ledger board and the sliding glass door removed and then reinstalled with the proper sealant under the threshold of the door.                 On my recent Builders Warranty Inspection I encountered this framing nail left behind after the roofers pulled their jacks. They jack the roof to support their planks they work off of. This wasnt the only nail I found on this roof that the roofer left behind. In all I found eight nail heads exposed and not applied under the shingles. This is a simple mistake the roofer does because they misplace the nail from their guns and never cover the head with tar when they are done.  The manufactures want these guys to pull the shingle out and replace the shingle.
