A Cistern is a reservoir or tank for holding water, especially for catching and holding rain water for later use.  These are very common on larger properties with gardens or farm property. I have seen cisterns in old city homes.  They have to be closed and they are not drinking water unless they are sealed and are designed specifically for such.  A cistern is not a well as it not driven by a water table but a rather a run off or catch from incoming water elsewhere.  Cisterns can be overflows for wells. 04/04/2013

Caveat Emptor means "buyer beware".  it is the buyer’s responsibility to do their due diligence to inspect every aspect of the property they are interested in prior to closing on a sale. Slowly, state by state, began transferring the responsibility from the buyer to the seller by doing away with the caveat emptor law. Yes there is and it is referred to as the Avon Lake Tax Exemption for senior citizens and surviving spouses. The exemption, which takes the form of a credit on property tax bills, allows qualifying homeowners to exempt $25,000 of the market value of their home from all local property taxes. For example, through the Homestead Exemption, a home with a market value of $100,000 would be billed as if it is worth $75,000. The exact amount of savings will vary from location to location. People ask me what are the guidelines for the city's garbage pickup.  Well here they area: ALLIED WASTE is under contract with the City (residents pay a monthly fee) to pick up garbage; appliances; bagged leaves and grass clippings in paper refuse bags for composting; bundled branches or small twigs in paper bags for composting; blue bag recyclables; bulky items such as furniture, mattress, etc.; carpeting; misc. rubbish and debris; and limited amounts of residential construction debris can be placed at curbside for pick up on the same day as your regular garbage pick up day. Absolutely!  Adding fresh neutral color to your home can turn a dated or even newer home into competition to the model next door.  OK maybe that can be pushing it in some cases.  But you would be surprised how much a difference fresh paint can help. Lighter more soft colors can make a small hallway or bedroom look even larger.  Choosing colors close to the furniture colors can also make room look roomier. It’s Pancake Time in Avon Lake.   Palm Sunday is just around the corner, which means it’s time for the semi-annual Avon Lake Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast.   This year, more than 1300 from Avon Lake and surrounding communities are expected to attend one of the cities largest gatherings in the Avon Lake High School Commons. Friends, neighbors and who’s who in town drop by for the twice-a year event (also held Homecoming weekend).   The men and women of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club put out an all-volunteer effort from 7:30 am. – 1:30 p.m. when the last pancake is served. The Avon Lake Symphonic Band, returning from a performance in Chicago's Orchestra Hall on March 9th, earned a superior rating in Class AA one week later at the Ohio Music Education Association District Four Large Group Contest. This was the first time the band has competed at the highest level in OMEA since 1991. The 58 member band, composed of students who are placed by audition, made it a sweep by earning the highest rating attainable from all four of the judges. The band performed "Circus Galop" by Sousa, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Lauridsen/Reynolds, and "Children's March" by Percy Grainger.
