I have watched my daughter who is 14, play softball, since she was about 5 years and it is without a doubt my favorite pastime. She's become quite the pitcher and hitter over the years, often getting doubles and triples, and being the pitcher in the last inning of the championship game 2 years ago, which they won! I look forward to it every year and this year will be no different, though much more challenging as she is now in the 14-18 league and the competition is pretty stiff. Some time ago I ran into friends while they were having lunch. They told me of the wonderful experience they had just had with John Knezevich, the owner of Briarwood Golf Club.They called John about having their son's First Communion party at Briarwood.  They went on and on about how thrilled they were when John actually answered his phone, and how accommodating he was to their needs. They mentioned that he would allow them to bring in a cake, unlike so many other places they had called, who were very rigid in their rules.So I met with John and found him to be a very welcoming, down-to-earth person who, if I had to guess, believes in the golden rule. For many years now the wonderful parishioners of Asumption Parish in Broadview Heights, Ohio have shown their generosity to the poorest of the poor in Thomazeau, Haiti.Teams of volunteers were formed to go to Haiti to help these starving people by providing electricity, water, and food. Last year, $20.00 paid for food for 1 child for 1 year. Think about that....food for one year. This year it will take $30 as the price of rice has risen.Many of these children are without shoes as well so Assumption Church is collecting shoes of all kinds, (except high heels) for the poor people of Haiti. For over 60 years, Handel’s has been serving homemade ice cream in all kinds of assorted flavors.  We discovered Handel’s when we moved to Brecksville.  It is actually located in Broadview Heights, about 13.6 minutes down the road from our house—yes, we have it timed.  All we have to say to our kids is “how about going to Handel’s?” and they move faster than a squirrel chased from the birdfeeder by our Labrador retriever! Here’s the thing—Handel’s was rated by Chocolatier Magazine as "One of the Best Ice Creams in America.".  Here’s another thing--they are open all year round!  We just took the kids there last Friday, February 7th.  Was it cold outside—you bet!  Did I have to get out and order and bring everything to the car?  You bet! I have lived and worked in Broadview Heights, Ohio since 1990 and my parents moved here in 1999. We all love this beautiful city and can truly call it home. When I'm in the mood for Mexican food the first place I go to is Cozumel's in Broadview Heights. The food is hot, fresh, fast, and delicious, and the wait staff is terrific and a lot of fun. As you will see from the pictures below, Cozumel's is fun and festive on the inside to!         As soon as you  are seated , a basket of warm chips is brought to the table with their homemade salsa, mild or hot.     Among my favorites are the guacamole (the best in the city, IMHO) and the chicken quesadilla verde, which is a flour tortilla stuffed with perfectly seasoned chicken, green peppers, onions,tomatoes, and cheese. I just finished taking a Photoshop Elements course at the Cleveland Photographic Society, located in Broadview Heights, Ohio.  Lore has it that this is the second oldest photography club in the nation.  The CPS was started in 1887.  This incredible institution has obviously changed and adapted over time, from the beginning of photography, to film photography and now to mostly digital photography.
