That's the advice of the first person who commented on Tanya Hutchins story about a Grandview Heights teen who wants to raise chickens... Teen Puts ‘Pet Project’ In Front Of Council In the Reader Reaction to the story on NBC4i.com "Sprockets" said: "There are very good reasons why farm animals are called “farm animals” and not “suburb” or “city animals.“  In fact, there are several reasons.  So what if this guy wants to keep chickens?  Let him grow up, get a job, and move to the freaking country." "Sprockets" mentions also he lived next door to someone who had a rooster... Doesn't moving to the country kind of defeat that whole urban sustainability thing?  The pet chickens are the second step in the teen's plan.  First step a garden. Andy Smigelski the Grandview Heights Ohio teen who wa...

As city leaders and the community as a whole have been buzzing about the downtown condo developments, another community has been quietly becoming one of the hottest areas for real estate in Columbus for graduate students, young professionals and medical residents alike: Grandview Heights.  Although many young professionals and grad students want to live close to where things are happening, many do not want the parking hassles, noise, and most importantly, the prices associated with downtown living. The prices of downtown condos have raised while other prices have stabilized, and in some cases dipped a little bit, depending on the area.  The downtown prices have risen to a point where many young professionals and especially students are not comfortable with the pricing, especially for th...

A Hop by any other name . . . . The Short North has had the Gallery Hop for something like 21 years now and other cities, regionally, call similar events by the same name - Gallery Hop.  Cincinnati and Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky all have Gallery Hops.  Ten years ago, the Short North Business Association registered the name with the State and they recently asked Grandview Heights not to use the term Gallery Hop to describe their event. So now, on the LAST Saturday of the month, Along Grandview Avenue between 1st and 5th Avenues, 20 businesses and seven galleries will open their doors to Art Hoppers.  I'm sure this event will regularly be well attended. For more information

Consumers:  Please visit Discover Columbus for CURRENT Central Ohio Real Estate Market Reports - this is old news but for some reason there are still a lot of views.  Although ActiveRain / Localism has a category for market reports a local ActiveRain member was highly opposed to my sharing this information. The numbers in the chart below are single family, townhouse and condominiums for sale and sold in the City of Grandview Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. This report and the graph shows market demand by comparing current inventory to number of homes sold in a 15-month period.  Grandview is one of the healthiest markets in Central Ohio now from what I see in the chart below, although there is still more inventory on the market this year than 2005. Market days are 27 days longer t...
