While giving tours over the past years, I am asked often about recycling in Hide-A-Way Hills. I am embarrassed to admit that Hide-A-Way Hills as a community fails to take on the task nor provides any opportunity to recycle within the community. Even our own Lodge and Golf Course facilities fail to recycle. But, don't let that keep you adding to our overtaxed landfills. Here's a couple of options for those who wish to recycle. The Marion County Community Center at 30737 Logan Horns Mill Rd (740-385-3100)welcomes recyclables on the first Saturday of every month from 9am until 1pm (Except in July due to the Holiday) or daily at the Logan Recycling Center SR 93 North, Logan Ohio. (740-954-5312)The following are accepted:Newspapers - stacked neatly in paper grocery bagsMixed Paper - copy pape...

Over the years, I'm often asked, "How do you compute property taxes in Hide-A-Way Hills, Ohio?" Couple that with the frequent question, "Is there a significant difference in Fairfield and Hocking County as it relates to taxes?" Today, let's take a look.In Ohio, state law dictates much of the Ohio property taxing procedures. To quickly compute taxes, we start with the market value(MV). The MV is typically determined by the County Auditor's office through a county appraisal. Each Ohio county must reappraise all real estate at least once every six years with equalizations adjustments occurring every 3 years to attempt to reflect a current MV.Once we have the MV, we multiply that by 35% to determine the taxable value or the assessed value (AV). This procedure will be the case in ALL Ohio co...

Once a platted portion of Hide-A-Way Hills, Kessler Swamp is now under the ownership and protection of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources through a generous donation. While Hocking county nature preserves usually showcase rare geological formations, the swamp plays home to various wildlife rare plant species. It is a host for water foul stopover and has even received its fair share of Bald Eagle sightings.Kessler Swamp is located less than 1/4 mile from the front gates of Hide-A-Way Hills and certainly deserves a quick stop if you're visiting the area.

After 24 hours, of a Level 3 Snow Emergency for Hocking County, the county roads including the private roads of Hide-A-Way Hills look fantastic. The private maintenance staff of the gated community of Hide-A-Way Hills proved to tackle the job of snow removal while residents took to the Hills for some outdoor winter fun. While the snow may have shut Hocking county down to a crawl, the beauty of the Hocking Hills area was apparent soon after the storm blew through.

'Twas an interesting and probably quite cozy and perhaps romantic weekend in "The Hills" from Hide-A-Way to Hocking.  For folks who were able to make it through the snow prior to the Level 3 Snow Emergency Alerts, staying put (or simply getting stuck, as they say) in a warm cabin in the woods was no doubt a great tonic.  Not a good weekend for the HAH Lodge and other restaurants and services in the area, and the white stuff (and whiteouts) no doubt put a heavy damper on lots of pre-spring events planned in the Hocking Hills Region...but peaceful and restful nonetheless. Gave us an opportunity to do a quick update on Visual Tours of the Hide-A-Way Hills resort community, with perspectives during and after the storm....thanks for taking a peek..... ©2008, Doug Parker, ikarensell Enterpris...

Hide-A-Way Hills, OH contains 31 miles of roads and approximately 66 different street names. Of the 66 named roads, 95% of these contain either a direct reference to Native American groups or to animals that possessed a prominent influence in Native American mythology. Even though a lot number in HAH is typically enough information to identify a location since there are no duplicate lot numbers, the original developers researched an extensive list of Native American influences to help identify street names within Hide-A-Way Hills. For some odd reason, the other 5% take a wild turn and seem to imply a Swiss/German influence. My guess is there's a story here, but I have no information on the uniqueness of those road names.I thought it might be fun to see what all these names meant. What...

We've been known to call Hide-A-Way Hills a "Gateway to the Hocking Hills"...although many, if not most, who find the community do so after first coming to see "The Caves" and other areas that comprise Hocking Hills State Park....most notably, Old Man's Cave.  No matter which comes first, there's a lot of common ground and certainly significant differences when it comes both to recreation, amenities, and definitely when it comes to buying a vacation home or acreage....or a place to retire, for that matter. On the left above is Lake Hope, just below the city of Logan; most folks will see it as a drive-by as they make their way down Route 664 to Old Man's Cave.  On the right is Lake of the Four Seasons, in Hide-A-Way Hills (also referred to as "HAH" or just "The Hills" by members.  The ...

Folks also often ask about wired home internet access in the community, along with cable and satellite TV.  Since Time Warner has now taken over the operation of the community's cable system, we can direcly compare things as well as anticipate what's likely to happen in the relatively near future.  Currently, members who basically live on the east side of Lake of the Four Seasons ("the big lake") have Verizon phone service....which means they can most probably get DSL high-speed interenet service, which is always address-specific.  Our HAH home has DSL, and we've found it to be at least as dependable and speedy as the Road Runner service we had at our home and now at our condo in Hilliard.  Cable broadband service can be affected by the number of users along the "line" at any given tim...

Because of the significant variety of homes in the community, built by many builders across a few decades, sale prices have tended to vary by year and across all price ranges.   It's probably true that emotion plays an even greater role than usual in a home purchase in "The Hills."  Moreover, Hide-A-Way Hills Club (that's the legal name....commonly referred to as Hideaway Hills, HAH, or just "The Hills") contains both primary and vacation homes for members, and the potential market for each type can certainly vary according to the outside economy....for example, if buyers are enjoying solid returns on other financial investments they might be more apt to consider a second home.  Or perhaps the vacation "market" might encourage people to stay closer to home....given the cost of gasoline ...

Perry County Auditor's Search Now Online - Hocking County Should Take a Look Perry County Auditor's Property Search Now OnlineInterested parties now have the ability to perform Perry County simple online property searches using a criteria of an owner's name, address, or parcel number. For advanced searches, users can search by numerous attributes including but not limited to dates, sold price, types of deeds, number of bedrooms, and townships. They also have a link to a Weekly Sales Report. While Hide-A-Way Hills is not in nor around Perry County, I believe this is an excellent example of how a county auditor's web site should present the county records. With the addition of the Perry County site, it allows me to muse about how Hocking County records are difficult for the average user to...
