The homes are in the Worthington City School District.  Average Worthington home sale price in June 2010 was up,  $225,000. Average active (list price) was down at $263,000.  Looks like the list prices have dropped in the past 15 months but Worthington sale prices are pretty stable, up slightly from June 2009. Worthington Ohio Home Sales June 2010 Worthington home sales dipped slightly from May but still had a pretty strong month.  In May, 26 homes sold in contrast to the 21 homes sold in June.  Despite the decrease in sales volume, the average sales price increased from just over $247,000 to an average sales price of $261,252.  The average price per square foot was $131.21.  There is still a lot of inventory and some great homes to choose from.  In Worthington there are 131 active listings.  There are homes to meet everyones needs from 2 bed 1 bath as low as just over $100,000 to 5 bedroom houses over 4000 sq feet. Colonial Hills Civic Association hosts its first Fourth of July celebration,  from the Timeline on the Worthington Memory site   The year?  1945  "July 4, 1945  Worthington        Colonial Hills Civic Association hosts its first Fourth of July celebration"  This years Fourth of July Celebration was yesterday, July 3, 2010 according to the neighborhood website.  1945 was before holidays were Mondays, and before Colonial Hills was in the City of Worthington... actually it was before there was a city of Worthington.  Worthington was a village, when the Colonial Hills neighborhood was annexed in the 1950s,  Worthington was big enough to become a city.   Next weekend the 2010 Worthington Historical Society's Home and Garden Tour is in Colonial Hills.  There will be a history talk at the shel... 07/04/2010

Worthington schools are called the Worthington City School District today. The George Bleimes family moved from the east side of Columbus to High St. just  south of the Village of Worthington  in the 1920s. They had a Worthington mailing address. The Bleimes family history by George Bleimes (the son)  says: "My mother had been an elementary-level teacher before marriage and was critical of the “country” schools of the Worthington School District. Therefore my parents paid tuition for me to attend Columbus schools. Columbus buses did not come out as far as our home, so I had to ride the street car (trolley car). Worthington trivia  from the  Timeline on the Worthington Memory site    June 25, 1912   -  "Council passes resolution to install a public water works and water becomes available throughout the village the next year. "  Sure enough further down on the timeline, in 1913 the Village of Worthington had water. The Village of Worthington was what is now known as the Old Worthington neighborhood, from Morning St. to Evening St. and  from North Street to South St.  Worthington would not become a city until the 1950s. Prior to getting water the Village of Worthington residents would have had individual wells. Seven Oaks Ooops... is the name Ozem Gardner Way just a way to say "I'm sorry"? I reposted 'Worthington's  Seven Oaks  this day in history'  to my oldest blog Discover Columbus (a RealTown blog not to be confused with Discover Columbus OH... another blog by a similar name..confused?)   A resident of Ozem Gardner Way shared this story in a comment: The street in the Seven Oaks subdivision named Ozem Gardner Way would have been, could have been... named Laurel Oak Drive if the house movers had not dropped the house and broke it?   Great story.  Seven Oaks Ooops... or an urban legend? Happy Birthday Linworth church - June 15, 1958 On this day in history,,, It was the Linworth Methodist Church but the building is now Linworth Baptist Church.  The first service in the church at 6200 Linworth Rd was June 15 1958. The church at 6200 Linworth Rd. has been expanded over the years. The 2010 Worthington Memorial Day Parade started at 10:00 AM in the rain... unless it was not raining on Dublin Granville Rd. (161) when the parade kicked off... it was raining when we we drove by a few blocks east of where the parade forms. It was raining when we walked a few block north from Lincoln Avenue where we parked. It was raining when the parade hit the block we were watching in... north of St. Michael Church but south of South Street... It was raining when the parade got there but it let up some soon after... you see less umbrellas on the sidewalks. I think the 2010 Worthington Memorial Day Parade moved a little faster than most years... and may have been shorter. Old Worthington May 27, 1941  National V- Day Do you see "FOR NATIONAL V-DAY" on the bottom of the sign for  the Thiron Clock Bread on the left side of the photo of a grocery store in Worthington?  Don O'Brien identifies the store as the A&P in Worthington. As Worthington prepares for the 2010 Memorial Day Parade this old photo from Don O'Brien's of a High St. grocery store, shows that National  V-DAY  was May 27, 1941.  Don O'Brien grew up north of Worthington on W. Wilson Bridge Rd.  which was out in the country back then. According to his notes on the photo he took a series of photos for Worthington News, the local newspaper of the day.
