It is with great sadness that I must share the news that Ian Collet passed in the morning of July 9th, 2012. There are some people that you do not have to see and/or talk to every day.  It could be months, even years, and yet, when you meet, it is as if you last saw them yesterday. Ian, and his wife Carol, are that type of people. I introduced people to Ian in a blog on Double Top Darts, a store that is a fixture in the Brampton Darting Community.  Ian, himself, has been a fixture at the Royal Canadian Legion Dart League, Branch 609 since 1974. He played in many different leagues over the years and has most probably single-handedly introduced thousands of people, both local and further away to the game of darts.  He was my friend, and my mentor. I can vouch of the many friends and loyal...

Summer Water Safety Make Rules For The Pool It's summertime and one of the refreshing ways to cool off, is a dip in the pool or lake. However, be careful of the dangers lurking wherever there is water. We are only into the early weeks of summer and already we have heard of several children drowned or near drowned. We were also surprised to learn that it only takes 10 seconds; 10 seconds;  for a drowning to occur and that contrary to popular belief, people do not wave or yell for help. We all have to be very mindful of our children and each other. One of the incidents happened in a backyard pond! Children are fearless and feel invincible, it is up to us to keep them safe. Remember the water safety rules and never swim alone. Have fun this summer in the water but play safe! Summer Water S...

Detached and Semi Detached Homes Near Century Gardens Recreation Centre Brampton Back in the 1960's and early 70's the government came up with a plan to help people with home ownership. They assisted by offering a plan called H.O.M.E. which stood for home ownership made easy.  The way they did this was to offer homes for sale on land leased lots. The land was leased for approximately 25 years and because the land was leased, the buyers did not have to pay the land transfer tax normally applicable when buying a property. That made coming up with the down payment a little easier. One popular neighbourhood offering this affordable housing was named the Madoc subdivision originally bordered by Queen St. E., Kennedy Road, Vodden St. E. and Heart Lake Road which is now known as the highway 41...

I took a stroll around Peel Village, Brampton, Ontario yesterday afternoon in the scorching heat and took some photos of this beautiful picturesque area.   Brampton's Peel Village is home to winding walking trails, Peel Village Park and Splash Pad, a tennis court, and of course, the famous Charles F. Watson and Family Gardens.    Everyone I met during my walk was friendly and very happy to be living in this gorgeous area.  I met a woman who lived in Peel Village for years and years until the kids grew up and moved out.  They downsized to another area of Brampton and now, have recently moved back to Peel Village because “there is no other area quite like this”.  I can see what she means.    Beautiful scenic entrance into Peel Village off Main Street, Brampton, ON                         ...
