Anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely adore animals of all kinds.  Growing up, we were always surrounded by pets of all shapes and sizes:  goats, cats, a horse, Irish Wolfhounds, Giant Schnauzer and even now in our home you'll find 2 Australian Shepherds and 2 toy poodles.  When I heard about Lucy, I knew I had to share this story with the many animal lovers out there . . . This little, teeny, tiny dog is a working dog . . . and, she is a rescue!! At only 2.5 pounds, Lucy recently was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s smallest working dog. Just look at this gorgeous little face!!  How could anyone abandon this cutie patootie?? If you and your best friend are looking to buy or sell in the Kingston/Gananoque/1000 Islands region, please give me, Susan Em...

Guess where I'm going tonite in the 'metropolis' of Gananoque?? I'm going to The Socialist Pig for a latte and there, Mark Sinnett, the author of The Border Guards will be reading from his book (and I hope to get an autographed copy too.) There is only 1 copy left in stock at Amazon and this is part of their review of same: "Set primarily in Kingston and the Thousand Islands area, a popular summertime playground that in winter becomes a treacherous and desolate locale seemingly populated primarily by spies, smugglers, and border patrols, The Border Guards features a colourful United Nations-style cast of characters that includes Russian gangster Nikolai Petrovitch, Canadian political power broker Michael Hollins and his restaurateur son Tim, FBI agent John Selby, art dealer Hanne Kristi...

Saint Valentine really got around . . .  this is one busy busy Saint! Or, was there two different Saints? Did you know the Patron Saint of Epilepsy is also Saint Valentine? (along with another 40 Saints!) It seems the bigger, greater the disease, the more saints that were assigned to the task!! There are two saints with the name Valentine who are worshipped in the Roman Catholic Church:   (please see comments 26 & 28 below) Valentine of Terni, patron saint day February 14, and Valentine of Rhaetia, patron saint day January 7.   Historically, people with epilepsy are portrayed in images of both these St. Valentines.  (most scholars believe they are the same person) "Saint Valentine is also the Patron Saint of: affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greeting...

I always loved that part in the spy thrillers where the message would self destruct after being read. Now, we have that same ability with some of our more sensitive or confidential emails . . . OneShar.es has a smart solution to safeguard sensitive information that’s very Bond, James Bond! "The web tool allows people to easily share private information, whether its via your mobile device (apps for iOS and Android) or your browser window. The recipient has one chance to view the information and when he or she closes out, it self destructs." (from their website) Don't take a chance,  take care,  and protect your details with a message that self destructs! The Chew (a tv cooking show)  spoke of the 60's being a time when people realized they could afford to entertain at home by way of dinner and cocktail parties. It became a time when food was more than just sustenance.   It was a time of the ever popular Avocado Green appliances too. Then we went thru the seasons of almond, black, white and stainless . . .    Guess what? Nowadays, many people can't afford to go out to eat so they've come back to home entertainment.  Dinner parties are huge again! Also, the ever popular coloured kitchen appliances are making a comeback.  Not only have high end Italian kitchens brought back colour such as the vibrant red cabinets (and also avocado green!), Viking Appliances, for example, now come in such a variety of colours - take a look: And, if you're n...

Gananoque, ON Each month I like to take a look back at my most viewed posts and see what is getting read the most.  Often what is getting the most views doesn't match up with the most comments left.   This is encouraging to me because I block any comments from non-members to avoid the dreaded spam.  So if I'm seeing alot of Views, it tells me that perhaps it is the public finding, and reading my posts. But then again, I KNOW it is the Public finding me because month after month it is my Localism posts that get the highest count.  I love it when I get an email from a customer commenting on something they've read online.  Or simply thanking me for pointing them in the right direction.   Not every message is going to lead to a listing or a sale but they don't need to.  I want to be a know...

Gananoque, On Of course you want to display your good taste to the world . . . You want to be known as the trend setter . . . Of course you can afford it . . . Money is no object! Unless you are planning on flipping your new investment property.   Then none of the above applies!! Yesterday. I was approached by an out of area Buyer wanting to invest in a property local to me.  There is some TLC  required but structurely, the house is solid. The Buyer starts listing all the things she wants to do with this property and, because her list is so lengthy , she expected the Seller to come WAY down in price. Did I mention the home is already listed below market value? So I ask to look at the list of improvements the Buyer thinks is necessary to flip this house and I see items such as: Exotic ha...

Ring Ring "Good morning, Susan Emo, YOUR Gananoque Realtor.  How can I help you?" "Yes, I'm calling about your listing at 123 Street." "Okay . . .   how can I assist you?" "Could you tell me more about it please - I saw it online." "Of course but I do need to ask first, are you currently working with any other Realtor?" "ummm, yes I am." "You'll have to have your Realtor call me - sorry, I'm not permitted to speak with another Realtor's client." GANANOQUE REALTOR, SUSAN EMO'S MOST VIEWED BLOG POSTS IN DECEMBER 2011   December is such a busy month for social activities and tying up loose ends prior to year end, it is a wonder that any blogs get read at all!  I'm always curious as to which of my blog posts gets the most readership each month, but I was especially interested for December.  They're not always the ones with the most comments which means they're being read by the public and not just other members of ActiveRain!    I find that pretty cool don't you?!    So for the month of December 2011, the following blog posts were the Top Ten and I am so happy to report that 8 out of 10 were Localism Posts - meaning they were written about the local community of Kingston, Gananoque or Brockville and all communities in between - YA...

If you haven't yet finished your shopping, take a look at these fantastic, locally made, mittens by Angie Fodey of "Naturally sMITTen"  in Lansdowne.   I purchased two pairs for gifts but I know I'll be back for more - they really are a wonderful gift item for everyone on your list! They are all handmade from recycled materials such as old wool sweaters for the outer layer and a fuzzy warm fleece for the interior liner.  The liners are removable, which makes for faster drying times too. Angie Fodey, the owner of  Naturally sMITTen, says, "I'm not being biased when I say that 'these are the warmest mittens you will ever wear'.  I'm also a fan of how unique each pair is, due to the patterns on the wool that I use."      The mittens come in 2 sizes and can now be found in stores in Montrea...

Gananoque, On When I first met Kate Miller in the spring of 2010, she was a young Mother interested in relocating to our area.  It was my honour and privilege to be her Gananoque Realtor of choice and we soon found the perfect place.  Kate quickly got to work making over the lower level of this home to accommodate the pet grooming business she wanted to open.  Kate had been successful in both Florida and in Quebec and now it was Gananoque's pets that were to benefit from Kate's professional grooming skills. In November she opened the doors of The Green Paw Spa You can find Kate at her Spa located at: 124 Arthur St, Gananoque 613.463.9039 or info@greenpawspa.ca  The Spa is open Mon - Fri: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm   All of Kate's products are medicated, tearless, phosphate and chemical free; lea...

SUPPORT GANANOQUE SECONDARY SCHOOL'S CHRISTMAS TREE SALE!! Since we moved to Gananoque, we have always purchased our real Christmas trees here at the Gananoque Secondary School.  We buy a 6 - 8 foot tree for my Mother's apartment in our home, and another 8 - 10 foot tree for our own.   We have found them to be the most reasonable of price and the service bars none!   The trees are trimmed to a gorgeous shape and they notch the ends to allow them to fit in your stand and absorb the max amount of water too. The Gananoque Secondary School has trees in all shapes and sizes;  Fat ones, Skinny ones, Tall ones, Short ones.  The only kind I've never seen there is 'The Charlie Brown Tree'  !!!   For that, you'll have to go elsewhere. If you're looking for your next home in which to make your tre...
