As with all careers, sometimes you find that this is not for you and start searching for another occupation. 'Gardening' inside the basements of the properties he rented is what one Toronto sales rep decided to do. In time, he turned this project into country's most substantial illegal marijuana operation. Trac's network of marijuana crops was discovered when a landlord, upset after being refused to check her house for several times, suddenly arrived at the rented house. Hoses leading to the basement which housed the weed enterprise was the only thing she found in an otherwise unoccupied house. 'We were very, very upset, to put it mildly,' said the owner on the interview. I'm sure I would be upset as well.Just less than 30,000 plants were seized totalling $30 million when the police fou...

The Caroling and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony happened last night in Cornell. Year after year, Cornellians gather around the big Christmas Tree in the Cornell Mews park to celebrate the beginning of the Holiday Season. Our Ward 5 councilor, John Webster, opened the ceremony. Johnathan Lee, tenor, led us in singing our favourite Christmas carols, and then we enjoyed the treats and the hot chocolate courtesy of the Cornell Rate Payers Association.     Even Cornelius the Lion showed up.   A magical night that made me reminisce about the Christmas Joy I felt as a child.   I hope this Christmas will bring this magic to the child in you!

Looks like it is still on schedule for 2011.   http://www.markham.ca/markham/ccbs/indexfile/Agendas/2009/General/gc0906 22/Fire%20Vehicles%20Apparatus.htm   In the 2007 capital budget Council approved the acquisition of one fire pumper apparatus including equipment (project #7748 -$650,000) and one fire aerial apparatus including equipment (project # 7757 - $1,100,000). Due to the 300 day build cycle, there is an immediate requirement to move forward with the purchase of a pumper apparatus for the Cathedral station.  Instead of purchasing an aerial apparatus, the recommendation is to purchase the second pumper apparatus and fund it from project # 7757 at a maximum of $650,000 and the remaining funds be returned to the original funding source.   Although the Cornell station pumper appar...

The Hospital Site plan was approved last week.  Looks like the hospital expansion plans are moving quicker then expected and will be under construction at the same time as the community centre.   http://www.markham.ca/markham/ccbs/indexfile/Agendas/2009/Development%20 Services/pl090505/Markham%20Stouffville%20Hospital%20Site%20Plan%20Endorsement.htm   The proposed expansion includes a four storey, 34,490 m² (371,247 ft²) addition to the southwest of the existing hospital building; renovations to the existing hospital building, which will provide a physical link to the proposed East Markham Community Centre & Library (EMCC&L); proposed future locations for additional medical office buildings fronting Church Street (which will be subject to a separate site plan application); and a propos...

“If you think you can or if you think you can’t, you are right” - I heard these words from Christine Rae, the founder and president of Certified Staging Professionals CSP, entrepreneur, mother, business woman, wife...and a lot of abbreviations that I have no idea what they mean... how much wisdom and motivation in just few ordinary words.   As the last week full of events fast approached, I was oscillating between excitement, fear and doubt that I will be able to survive until this Sunday. But as every day in the life of a stager is full of challenges of every kind, looking back I can say that it wasn’t even that hard. Hit the nail in the head! Everything started on Wednesday, April 22 when a group of CSP stagers participated in a Charity Build for the Habitat for Humanity. As my compan...

We were hired for a staging consultation by one of our Realtor™ partner. The house had been previously listed in the fall of 2008 with a different agent, but it had no showings. Now the homeowner was ready to list the house with our Realtor™ who understood the need of a professional staging consultation. The original homeowner lived in this house for more than 40 years, he passed away and now his widow was ready to move on with her life, joining her family in another province . At the first glance we noticed the amount of personal items that were collected through years and a red carpet that was covering hardwood floors in the principal rooms. The kitchen was painted in blue. The house had 4 bedrooms, but one was used as an office and another one as a hobby room. The agent told us that...

I just want to post some pictures from the 10th Annual Cornell BBQ wich was held on the 10th of August 2008. This is one event that is being marked in our calendar many months before it takes place. Our kids love it and it is an opportunity to meet neighbours, connect with the local business community and have a great BBQ after all. There were inflatable play zones, live music,   face painting, raffles and even hot air balloon rides for the curageous ones. And plenty of food as it was a BBQ after all.   Cornellius the Lion, the mascot of Cornell, had some fun too.   We really enjoyed the fun, food and entertainement. But as in every show, the army of people who actually make things work remain behind the curtains.  These are the people in the CRPA board who generously donated their time ...

Welcome to Cornell Village! Situated on the North-East corner of Markham - Ontario, Cornell is a mixed-used community that was built 9 years ago following the New Urbanism philosophy. It was one of a kind development long before the mixed-used communities became a mainstream development trend.I won’t bother you with numbers and stats, you can find more information about Cornell here. The Cornell houses are replicas of Canadian heritage houses and you will find a mix of Victorian, Arts and Crafts or collonial styles on each street. Let’s take a walk on the memory lane, when houses were smaller and the families were larger, neighbors were looking out for one another, streets were alive. Kids were playing outside all day long coming in just to grab a bite or when it was too dark to see the...

While the "416" (Toronto's local area code) dominates new condo construction, the "905" (that is, the surrounding suburbs in the GTA) account for 25% of the activity. In a decade, Mississauga and Markham's condo market have grown to 30 and 40 times (respectively) from its size in 1996. Population growth, lifestyle changes, and the availability of large land parcels in the "905" has fueled demand and supply. The near overnight sell-out of the first 6 condo buildings released in the heavily marketed "Downtown Markham" project is a testament to the market's strength.
