I went for a walk along Wellington Avenue and stopped in a Isobel's just to smell the baking and live vicariously. Oh yes, I also managed to have my camera and thought I would take a few photos so you can see what I saw.   Two days before Mother's Day and the cookies and cupcakes are flying off the shelves.  Yum. Yum

Last night we went out for Valentine's Day (okay, a few hours before the stroke of midnight but so close to the 14th as not to count).  One of my favourite restaurants a few years ago was Allium on Holland Avenue.  For some reason, time passed and we had not been back.  In looking for a place to celebrate Valentine's Day, I suggested Allium.  Monday night is tapas night and that allows me to taste a few things without ending up with a huge plate of only one type of food.  I was not disappointed!  We had great service, wonderful tapas and then for only $4.00 a half of a Banoffee pie (see the photo from the Allium website above to realize that this was not a huge serving but JUST RIGHT.  I saw a Jamie Oliver television show where he made one of these pies and it stuck as something that...

Are your gutters so packed with debris that things are growing in the muck?  There is definitely no market for a house with little trees growing in the gutters.  Not only is it unsightly but it also risks water penetration into the house.   This is one of the things that a Home Inspector will notice first when he or she takes a look at the house from the street.  Maybe your gutters are on the second floor and it is difficult to get up there and clean out the debris.   From time to time hire someone to go up there and get the foliage removed.  The cost now will be offset by the reduction in repairs and maintenance to the house from water damage.  Clean gutters allow water to flow away from the house. Have some guts. Photo credit:  Gutter garden

Buyers love installed closet organizing systems.  I love them too.  I have had closet companies in to to an assessment and design for my closets in my last two homes.  Truthfully, their work makes a huge difference in what can be done to maximize and organize closet space.  One of the first things that these organizers do is look at what you currently have and see how it can best be accommodated.  I think that, before you or an organizer start a design, there are 9 questions that you should consider and deal with to ensure the best end product.        1.  Am I expecting a major shift in my lifestyle sometime in the next five years?  Examples:  from student to employed, from corporate work to more relaxed style of work, from working to retired. 2.  Am I prepared to review my current...

This is the story of House Sellers Mark and Lou. As we learned earlier, Home Seller Mark has moved out and we are now dealing with Home Seller Lou.  With the good news about the Grow Op, Lou is ready to bring in a Home Stager.  Agent Valerie had given her three referrals:  Sally Worthy, Janice Anytime and Judy Klean.  All three were well known experts in getting houses ready for market.  Lou called Judy because her name sounded just right.   Agent Valerie intended to be at the initial appointment with Lou and Judy but one of her deals went into an offer / counter offer situation.  Judy said she was looking forward to the challenge and would send Valerie an email with updates on how the work was progressing.  A week later Real Estate Agent Valerie received the following email:  From:  Ju...
