One of the goals I have for my blog on ActiveRain is to let people know what a beautiful place Brookings, Oregon is and why people should come to visit. Once someone visits they realize they want to make Brookings their home!  The Oregon Coast Trail follows 362 miles of Oregon coastline, starting as you cross the Washington State border, at the north jetty of the Columbia River, and finishing just south of Brookings, Oregon. The Oregon Coast Trail wanders through Samuel Boardman State Park in a series of short and often steep spurts between viewpoints. The park has spectacular stretches of rocky overlooks and not overly crowded beaches. There are numerous vista points along Highway 101, but to fully enjoy and appreciate Samuel Boardman State Park you need to take a hike on one of the wel...

ATTENTION WHALE WATCHERS            The Southern Oregon Coast is a great location if you are excited about watching for whales. The spring Whale Watching Week for 2008  is March 22nd  -  March 29th.  The migrations are spread out for a few weeks on either side of "watch week." This is not the only time you can see the whales. Many so called "resident" gray whales also spend months near the Oregon Coast, especially in summer and fall! About 18,000 whales will pass by our coast during March, April, May and June on their way to Alaska's Bering Sea.HARRIS BEACH STATE PARKThere are several Whale Watching Sites where you can watch for migrating gray whales and their babies. Some of the Brookings areas that have proved to be wonderful sites for whale watching are Harris Beach State Park...

Our mild climate gives us the nick- name "The Banana Belt" and we can boast an average year round temp of 65*. This is my first post and as a kick off I just want everyone to know what a paradise Brookings Oregon is! Many people come to Brookings as a retirement destination, some buy second homes here for vacation purposes and still others just can't resist the small coastal town atmosphere and want to make this their home town. With property prices lower than most California coastal towns, Brookings does have a special allure! We will be having our annual Azalea Festival in May and will post mo...
