This affordable architect-designed home near Portland's Garden Home neighborhood retains its orginal 1960 character & quality; it's an excellent example of the casual and open plan living that was made popular in that era.  This home was shown as a Better Homes & Gardens magazine 5 Star Home in 1960!   4 Bedrooms / 2.1 Baths;  2,136 sq ft

I have had the opportunity to answer some "floor calls" in the last week and every one of them has their home on the market, and they are calling me about a property they are interested in.  We chat for about 5 minutes before they tell me that they have their home on the market and then I ask them the question.  "Is an agent representing you on selling your home?"  Answer is Yes.  Then I ask, "Do you want them to represent you when you purchase a new home?"  Answer is YES.  So I tell them, well you need to contact your agent as I may be in breach of a contract you have in place with your agent.  They say, "you mean, they can show me a house?"  Oh my goodness, I almost fall off of my chair when I hear this.  So my advice is, if you want to represent your clients on both sides of their pu...

What this park lacks in size it makes up for with pride! This neighborhood park is, I would guess, only about 30 to 40 acres, but what it has in those boundaries is PRIDE and a lot of it!We parked on the south side of the park and what is the first thing we see? A community youth garden right in the middle of a neighborhood park. I knew I had found something different when I walked into this park. This park had everything, Tennis Courts, Basketball, Wading Pool, Soccer Fields, Baseball Field, Wall Ball, Horseshoe Pit, Playground Equipment, Picnic Areas, Walking Trails, Football Field, and even a stage for outdoor concerts! (Which unlike most park concerts, these go through the end of September.)The walking / running trail is a ½ mile loop and as an ex-runner I have to say I loved the tra...

Have you ever heard the statement, "You are so ugly that your mommy would have to tie a steak around your neck to even get the dog to play with you"? Well, can a city, or a part of a city, be that way?You know as an agent we can't steer our clients to certain parts of a city, but what about the city trying to steer people to that part of the city? Well, the City of Portland has just such an area. The Lents area of Portland, for the longest time, was really not a desirable place to live for many, but the houses were affordable. The City of Portland has decided to try to improve this area by making it a Tax Abatement Area and trying to make the area a better place to live. But, in my opinion, one of the things the city could have done instead of doing this is just cleaning up the area of t...

I found it in an antique store, an old, faded photograph. A vine covered porch, a family in what looks like Sunday best, posed.   Dark suited father, mother in a dark skirt and white blouse, and four daughters in white dresses. One girl with a sailor tie and collar. Between two of the girls sits a family pet, plants hang from the porch beams and rest on the rail. All are smiling.  At least this is how I am seeing the photo and the people depicted.   The house number looks like it might have been 103, perhaps 703.  It is so faint it is hard to know. The photo looks as if it was taken in 1910 or so. My father lived in Sellwood that year - at 724 Lexington, the number was changed when the Portland streets were renumbered. He was less than one year old. The family moved to northeast soon af...

It's a lazy Sunday.  I get a call from a friend.  She has an extra ticket to go see the final Summer Concert at the Oregon Zoo for 2008.  Who's playing?  Doesn't matter. I'm in. The summer zoo concerts go back to my childhood.  It was the one event the entire family participated in and enjoyed.  My folks would sit on the lawn and watch the concert while I would peruse the zoo with a friend.  Always good times. It was also such a concert where my boyfriend, Dave met my parents for the first time and professed his love for me.  These zoo concerts have never failed me. The forecast called for rain beginning at 3pm.  Now if Dave were going to the concert with me, he would have started to immediately prepare tarps, umbrellas and rain pants.  He always over packs ...

Without becoming too political, I would just like to make a comment about our well being as a society. The past 30 some years has honed the skills of political attack machines to a fine science. The goal line has shifted. The two major political parties have separate agendas. Republicans have taken the stance that the ends justifies the means. They spend very little effort telling and or debating the story of their candidate on the issues. Instead they focus all of thier attention has been described as a tearing down of the other person. Destroy the other candidate and you win by default. The naive Democrats on the other hand believe in ideals and truths. They often say " Americans are smarter than that and will see right through that" after reviewing a republican attack add that is mad...
