Gettysburg Pa offers an Art Deco Look on the Battlefield Okay, so you are headed to Gettysburg Pa, you are gonna spend some time on Gettysburg Battlefield, walk around the quaint town that makes up Historic Gettysburg Pa. You are primed for Civil War history to come at you at a fast and furious pace. You head down Confederate Ave, admiring the Gettysburg historic homes that line the lane on the Battlefield and then it hits you.....what is that. You are now looking at the best example of Art Deco architecture in Gettysburg Pa. What you are seeing is the Gettysburg Armory building. Built in 1938, and designed by John Hamme, it is a beautiful combination concrete, brick and asphalt. I personally love this building and if I ever won the lottery I would snap this baby up and make my personal...

Does the Weather Affect Your Showing Schedule? Yesterday I was out enjoying a rare day of somewhat sunlight here in Gettysburg Pa. You see we here in Gettysburg have been experiencing a major amount of rain, so this rare brief  time slot when there was some sunshine I headed out to the Gettysburg Battlefield. There are many reasons why someone would want to move to Gettysburg, Pa, but I don't believe any are as compelling as being able to take some time, pretty much whenever you want, to go spend some time on Gettysburg Battlefield. So as you can see, I got stuck in a pretty intense hail storm, that is not usual weather for our area, however we have been getting alot more of it than normal. Personally, I think it is affecting our real estate market in that I notice showings increase whe...

The Gettysburg Keller Williams Keystone Realty team did some volunteer work this last Thursday at the Gettysburg National Cemetery.  The National Cemetery recently hired a new staff member to help maintain the headstones along with some other duties.  The head stones were not being regularly cleaned so we were a test group for some future volunteers.  Our objective was to wet the stones down with mild cleaner, scrub, wait, and rinse with water.  It was amazing how much more clean the head stones were after our treatment.  The goal wasn't to make them bleach white on the first treatment but over time they should really start to shine.  We spent about 2.5 hours and cleaned about 150 head stones.  We could have done more but we ran out of solution.  It was a great event and was much apprec...

Gettysburg Pa takes a Hike This morning I set out at a brisk 6:00am to help co-ordinate an annual event for the Rick & Sally Myers Animal Shelter of Gettysburg Adams County Pa. Each year at this time the shelter puts on their "Loyalty Walk" event. Historic Gettysburg Pa comes alive with activity during the spring and summer months, and the Loyalty Walk has become a fund raising staple for the shelter. The walk starts at 9:00am and travels through the beautiful rolling hills of the historic Gettysburg Battlefield. Todays walk was a wonderful time, the recent and huge amounts of rain that Gettysburg  has been experiencing has the Gettysburg Battlefield looking a lush green. The creeks are full and the sound of babbling brooks was in our ears the whole walk. A wonderful time was had by all...

How to Get Your Own Gettysburg Address Early  in 1864 President Abraham Lincoln was invited to speak at the newly created Soldiers National Cemetary in Gettyburg Pa. Honoring both Union and Confederate troops who had fought in the Battle of Gettysburg. Former Secretary of State Edward Everett gave a two hour speech to the crowd of approximately 15,000. Then President took to the podium and with a "few appropriate remarks" was able to summarize the war un just ten sentences. Gettysburg Pa has become a mecca for Civil War enthusiasts and re-enactors alike. The quiet safe neighborhoods of Gettysburg have become a popular place to call home for many from all over the country. Area Pro is the Way to GOOOO Well it's been a few weeks and I am beginning to get comfortable with all the new stuff that Area Pro Realty Southern Pa has to offer. There are a myriad of websites, blogsites, client contact systems, electronic signature etc, etc, etc. I have put together a simple powerpoint presentation to introduce myself and Area Pro Realty Southern Pa to the greater Gettysuburg, Adams County area. Funny thing, it has been a long time since Gettysburg Gerry used Powerpoint, there is alot more to it these days, and I think I will be doing more with the new improved Powerpoint. It kinda pushes one to get creative. In any event, as Jackie Gleason used to say.....and away we gooooo.

One of the great things about living in Gettysburg Pa is that I get to enjoy everyday in a place that people come to vacation. Yeah it has it's dirty underbelly as do all towns, but every once in a while I get to just pull off the road and get to experience something wonderful. As was the case the other day with beautiful sunset  on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Enjoy your weekend my freinds....

I recently went on a listing appointment where I was the higher price of the agents interviewed.  I had asked them to discuss the other agents figure with me prior to making any sort of decision to list the home.  Of all things the price is one of the simplest adjustments to make.  The agent wasn't just "some agent" it was an agent that had been used for the purchase of another home by these sellers.  However our price difference was nearly 46,000 dollars apart on an 185,000 dollar home (my price).  Some may suggest that I bought the listing, however I can show proof of price.  So I think we have to define the difference between buying a listing and pricing it right.  I have a suspicion that the other agents were looking for a quick sale and quick commission check.  I'm getting to my po...

Wondering About Gettysburg Pa Homes for Sale As we enter in another spring season it is time to take stock of Gettysburg Pa homes for sale for spring 2011. Below you will see a chart of the Gettysburg Pa homes sold, Jan - Mar 2011. Over all we have sold a few more homes than this time frame in 2010, however the median home price has fallen about $ 20,000 . There are roughly 200 agents in the Adams county area, so having 86 sold properties in the first 10 weeks of the Gettyburg Pa homes for sale market is at best alright. Keep in mind that there are 815 current lisings, of those 815, 235 have been on the market for 6 months or more, and 116 are in pending status. The Gettysburg Pa homes for sale market is still not healthy by any means, however it is getting better, month by month, year...

Harvest of Death - The Wheatfield on Gettysburg BattlefieldHarvest of Death is the name of a famous photograph by Civil War photographer Timothy H. O'Sullivan showing dead Union soldiers at the Wheatfield on the Gettysburg Battlefield during the second day of the battle.  The fighting that took place at the Wheatfield consisted of eleven different brigades attacking and counter attacking for over two hours. Over 20,000 soldiers, (6 Confederate brigades & 13 Union brigades) participated in the action that transpired at the Wheatfield. Of those that engaged over 6,000 were killed, wounded, or captured. 20,000 men engaged in battle on an 19 acres of ground, no wonder they consider the Wheatfield among the bloodiest battles on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Some of the casualties were able to ...

Bagpipers Right at Home in Gettysburg Pa One of the wonderful things about Gettysburg is it's First Friday tradition. Many of the small towns and cities around the Southern Pa area have First Fridays. The events run year round, and the first friday of the month shops and restaurants stay open at night, the art galleries offer wine and cheese to sip and nibble while browsing the gallery, and many of the local pubs and public houses offer something special. I ran into these guys outside of O'Rorks Pub on Steinwehr Ave in the heart of the Steinwehr business district.

Home Front General Store - Gettysburg Borough Pa   One of my favorite stores here in Gettysburg Borough is Home Front General Store. Stepping into Home Front is like stepping into the past. They have a huge selection of  17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century war reenacting equipment and supplies. Home Front General Store started in a small shop on York St, moved to a bigger location on Baltimore St, and is now in it's new home at 39 Queen St.        Owners Diana Thomas and Kirk Davis have a passion for all things reenactment. The store is filled with uniforms, guns, swords, collect-ables and even a room set aside for the ladies of the reenactment world. You will find everything from perfume bottles, to Victorian dresses, to a WW II Chaplains bicycle. Home Front General Storehas is all, and ...

Gettysburg Adams County Pa - A Historical Gold MineBeing a Realtor in the Gettysburg Adams county area of Pennsylvania I am exposed to some of the most beautiful historical architecture in the country. Gettysburg and the surrounding Adams county is a treasure chest of historical homes and buildings. Many times as I am traveling to and from appointments I will pass a building that sticks in my mind. Being a true blogging addict and amateur history buff I love when I run across buildings like the one shown here. Not only does it provide a wonderful photo opportunity, but with a business name on the building, it gives me a chance to do a little Gettysburg Adams county area research.         This particular building is the J.F. Biesecker & Sons Flour Mill. After doing some research I was su...
