Saturday July 10th was a landmark day for Lansdale, PA - the first (of hopefully many!) Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival.  With proceeds going to the Lansdale Farmer's Market, and local food pantry Manna on Main Street, this was a fun event with heart. I'd never been to a beer tasting festival before, so was not too sure what to expect for my $35 entrance fee.  What I got was a fun afternoon of amazing hand-crafted beers, great food from local vendors and Amazing music from Great Big House. A huge crowd of all ages mingled under the humongous tent enjoying the food, music and beer.  The breweries represented included Anchor Brewing, Bear Republic, Fegley's Brew Works, Flying Fish Brewery, Founder's, Great Lakes, Hometown, Lagunitas, Lancaster Brewing Company, Latis (Palm), Long Trail Brew...

What makes a town a great place to live?  Above all, it's the people.  Regardless of the great restaurants, fun shops, beautiful parks or ease of transportation, a town is only as good as its inhabitants. I live in Lansdale, Pennsylvania - population 16,071 .  That may sound small, until you realize that Lansdale is a small, historic borough located in Montgomery County. A county with 750,097 inhabitants.  And that county is located in the Philadelphia suburbs - a Metropolitan Statistical Area with over 5.8 million people. So how does little Lansdale stand out?  Well, when I walk to our Main Street, I usually run into someone I know.  The former mayor runs the hardware store.  The current mayor lives two blocks from me and is also a local business owner.  Our neighbors are our friends. ...

Nestled in the heart of Towamencin Township (Lansdale, PA) since 1972 is Freddy Hill Farm and Freddy's Family Fun Center.  At the Freddy Hill farm store, you can get homemade ice cream by the scoop or by the half gallon to take home.  The store also offers milk produced right on site - it is the freshest, best tasting milk around.       You can also pick up eggs, butter, cream plus Amish baked goods brought in daily from Lancaster.  The store also has some seasonal produce, country decorations and nicknacks, annuals, pumpkins and hay bales depending upon the season.   While enjoying your ice cream, you can walk through the farm and see the many farm animals such as cows, pigs, goats, and chickens. Every kid's favorite part (and some big kid's too) is the Freddy Hill family fun center.  ...

Immigration is certainly a hot topic these days.  And discrimination has even been a hot topic on Active Rain this week.    There was a terrific Op-Ed article in The NY Times earlier this year written by Thomas Friedman about why we should Embrace Immigration (legal immigration of course).  The main point was all but one of the 40 high school finalists in the 2010 Intel Science Talent Search were from immigrant Asian families.  Families who came to the United States of America to make a better life for themselves and their children, people who CHOOSE to be American.  Friedman argues in his article that we should be glad that the best and brightest in science and innovation want to be American citizens, that is the absolutely best way to stay a global leader.  Think about it.  He makes a...

A neighbor asked us to sponsor a table at the Lansdale YMCA's Senior Fitness Day which was held yesterday from 9-12 at the YMCA in Lansdale, PA.  We will admit that we mainly did it because our neighbor asked us to.  She is a lovely woman who always comes to us with her real estate questions.  She has told us many times that someday when she does sell, it will be with us.  She is always looking out for us.  We are her go-to Realtors.  How could we possibly let her down?  So we paid our $15 fee and got a table. We had chip clips as giveaways with a corny tag on it which read, "For easy closing, call the Scott Loper Team at Re/Max Realty Group (and no stale aftertaste!)" We also donated a $25 Kohl's gift card as a door prize (which ironically our neighbor won). So how did it go? It was a ...
