When we picture summer, we often see common images: long lake days, s’mores around the campfire, hiking or biking through shaded, winding trails. Another scene that sparks that summer feeling? The lights, sounds, and smells of a night at the carnival: tickets in one hand and a cotton candy or funnel cake in the other. There are several fairs and carnivals that visit the Pocono region each summer, and one of the most popular is the Pocono Mountain Carnival in the town of Mount Pocono. The oldest and largest carnival in the region, Pocono Mountain Carnival is ringing in its 98th year providing endless memories for those in the area. The carnival offers over 20 rides for adults and children alike, in addition to tons of games, including a cash bingo. Not the carnival ride type? There is li...

Staging takes you places! I love the fact that being a professional Home Stager has allowed me to travel all over my region to places I didn't even know existed... all right in my own backyard!  Over the Pocono Mountains, through the valleys, down private roads, behind gated communities...the spaces, places and properties I have seen and transformed over the past 5 years have been truly incredible. My most recent staging though, took me somewhere I would have never imagined...a space where something magnificent took place... ...A place where Heaven met Earth in the most beautiful way. This special place was not a million dollar mansion with magestical views but rather the humble gymnasium of my kid's Catholic school. Not pretty, not new, nothing fancy...but this staging of a different k...

As a steakhouse afficianado - I know when the ribs are put before the steak in the name, where the emphasis is on. Not that the steak selection was bad (they do use wet-aged steaks- I am a dry aged steak lover), but I was there for the ribs. My wife went for the sliced prime rib sandwich which she did enjoy. As I was able to choose from different types of ribs and sides with my entree (the portions were very generous), I was able to choose a caesar salad which got to me nicely along with bread and water for our table (our server Dan was very pleasant and efficient). The dressing on the salad seemed freshly prepared (if I recall it says that on the menu) and it was very tasty. Then I ordered the rib combination platter of "dinosaur bones" (huge beef ribs), baby back ribs and I forgo...

If you like reminiscing about the 1950's, have kids or want to please your inner child or just have a great time, then you want to visit the Casino Theatre Entertainment Center, located at 110 Pocono Boulevard which is right off Route 611 in the heart of downtown Mount Pocono. Once inside, the aroma of freshly cooked burgers and seeing the memorabilia on the wall, brings you back to the sock hop days of the old fashion Malt Shoppe. You can get your fill of both old and new favorites here as well as take in first run movies, play games in the arcade, enjoy miniature golf (weather permitting) and special events. Twin theatres also feature at your seat dining! They serve lunch and dinner, the staff is very friendly and the prices are fantastic. They have a Friends and Family Night Spe...

Surveillance cameras at Mount Airy Casino are being used to accuse people of stealing when the people are doing nothing more than finding lost vouchers either on the floor or in a machine left unattended. I would think that this is both illegal and unconstitutional, not only to use surveillance for dropped vouchers but for the unattended machines as well. If someone pickpocketed the voucher, that is stealing. We have a very bad precedent being set here and I think that any lawyer would be able to fight this and I would also think the casino would be subject to a lawsuit. I would not want to step foot in an establishment where the simple act of sitting by a slot machine where some old bat lost their ticket, constitutes stealing. Utterly ridiculous! If a person returned the vouchers ...

Mount Airy Casino Resort will soon include table games thanks to the approval of its' request by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Games such as Blackjack, Craps and different variations of Poker could soon be in the works as the Casino plans to expand the gaming floor. The hotel has been running near full occupancy on weekends prior to this announcement, according to Mount Airy spokespeople. The table games are expected to create over 250 jobs and bring increased revenues to both Mount Airy and the entire Pocono region. The casino also plans to double the number of rooms from the 200 it currently operates. The Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, also was granted its' request for table games as well, and that should bring the same job and economic growth to the Bethlehem/Lehigh ...

Heavyweights of the squared circle, not the gridiron, played host to a great crowd gathered for pro footballs' championship game yesterday at Gypsies nightclub located in Mt. Airy Casino. Larry Holmes, Gerry Cooney, Bobby Czyz and Chuck Wepner, met with fans, signed autographs, took pictures and told stories as patrons got ready for the big game. Many took advantage of the discounted buffet, specially priced at $7.77. That was a jackpot for sure. I, however, took great pleasure in meeting these boxing greats. Larry Holmes, still sharp with the verbal jab, held a heavyweight title (either undisputed or organizational belt) for a still record 7 years. I think I caught Larry off guard a little, when I threw back the tag line form his show at him, saying: "What the heck were they think...

By Wayne Witkowski For the Pocono Record January 10, 2010 Although residential real estate experts say the market has hit its lowest point and has been on an upswing, some feel apprehensive about how long that will last on the shirttails of the expiring homebuyer and homeseller tax breaks. "If the government does not continue the homebuyer tax credit (which expires April 30), it will be like the cash-for-clunkers program in the auto industry, which has reported 30 to 40 percent drops (in sales) the past few months since the program expired," said Dominick Sacci, general manager/senior vice president of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Wilkins & Associates. "I have a gut feeling it (tax credits) won't be extended." The federal incentives include an $8,000 tax break for first-time hom...
