Tonight is the first night of Passover and Jewish people all over the World will be sitting down with their families and close friends and having a Seder dinner. What is a Seder, you may ask? It is a meal symbolizing freedom from slavery and bondage from Egypt, and each food has its own meaning. It is a tradition celebrated. The Jewish people left Egypt in haste with no time to make bread; therefore, this is why Matzo is unleavened bread. It is the Story of Exodus and there is a plate on the table that each food/herb has a meaning. You will find the story in the Bible. This week's Philadelphia Steal and Deals are Orchids. At a Produce Junction store, I got fresh vegetable fruit, plants, and flowers. Flowers are always a wonderful gift for someone special on Valentine's Day or yourself if you have the winter blues.Produce Junction always has the most reasonable plants and flowers. It has been dreary here, and many people bought cut flowers. Not me; I was enchanted with the gorgeous potted orchids on the floor. Colors were abundant and various sizes if you know these beauties. With Black Friday coming up, many popular stores offer early deals to get you to spend your money. But are these deals worth it? Only time will tell. Please don't wait too long, though, as they may run out of stock soon!I checked out UGG last night, and they offered 30% discounted prices. Many cute deals were available on jackets, sandals, sneakers, and clothing. Although only a few boots were available( I will check back as I love the UGG boot in cold weather), a jacket caught my eye. The New Year is here and just like that so are rising prices. Last week when I went food shopping I walked out of one of the stores because I refused to pay that much money for cheese and eggs. The following week the same store cut the prices in half. There is one store I go to for bottled water and soft drinks because otherwise, I pay a soda tax to the City of Philadelphia. The money originally was for certain school programs so it was bittersweet. I  make a trip to my local Acme shop to purchase items in Bensalem. I check to see what is on sale plus they carry a local homemade pasta brand I love.  A Boutique TJMax is right next to them if I have the time I stop in.Now mind you I am one person and my food bill has gone up considerably.
