      As a member of the Jewish faith, I was invited by Rabbi Mendel Bendet of Chabad Lubavitch of the Poconos to attend the annual Menorah lighting ceremony located at Courthouse Square in downtown Stroudsburg. I was honored and surprised that Rabbi Bendet took the time to call me, but in hindsight, I shouldn't have because even though I am not a fully observant Jew, the Rabbi makes it a point to reach out to those who still are members of "the tribe". The lighting ceremony took place this year on the 5th night of Hanukkah and members of the Rabbis' congregation made latkes and powdered donuts. Then we sang the traditional Hanukkah blessings when the Rabbi lit the candles of the menorah. The new Monroe County animal shelter (AWSOM), will present the 12 Strays of Christmas beginning December 14th!  WBRE TV 28 will feature a homeless pet each day. The morning weather anchor will shoot live from the shelter and the homeless pets will be aired every Morning and on the 5 - 5:30 news broadcast.  There are pets of all sizes and ages, and they are spayed and neutered. The Pocono Family YMCA, located on Main Street in Stroudsburg, has opened a new Pilates and Spin Studio! It offers classes to members and non-members and is right across the street from their parking lot on Williams St.  Pilates is a great work out for people of all levels.  Seeing and feeling results in your body keeps you coming back for more. The Animal Welfare Society of Monroe County is a no-kill shelter for our animals, opening in the old PSPCA building in Stroudsburg.  With a lot of volunteers and donations from the community and local businesses, they will be opening on November 14, and not a minute too soon! AWSOM, the new Animal Welfare Society of Monroe, has flocked Keller Williams! What does that mean? We have to raise $250 for this great cause, so the cute pink flamingos can keep flying around Monroe County! We can't let them sit! It raises awareness for this new group, which is going to be moving into the old SPCA shelter in Stroudsburg. The planned opening date is Halloween!  It is a no kill shelter, and they will rely on donations and foster families to help care for the poor animals who are left behind, found or need a home for any number of unfortunate reasons.
