I am glad to relay the news that the city of Anderson, in conjunction with Anderson County, on Tuesday expanded the city’s Electric City Transit system. They created a new route, clled the Gold Route to serve south Anderson and Homeland Park. This service will provide transportation to employment centers, shopping areas, medical services, educational centers, recreational facilities and more. Electric City Transit operates four routes Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fares are 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for seniors and students. The Federal Transit Administration, South Carolina Department of Transportation, the city of Anderson and now Anderson County provide funding for this system. The city purchased the new bus for the route with federal stimulus funds at 100%...

Mark your calendars people because you do not want to miss Celebrate Anderson! This event giveseveryone something to look forward to from the outdoor concert to the Zambelli fireworks to end the event. The big event takes place at the William A. Floyd Amphitheater at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center. The event is free and open to the public with the gates opening at 6PM. The concert starts at 730PM. Electric City Transport will provide free transportation to the amphitheater every 30 minutes between 6 and 8 from Homeland Park Eleementary, the Westside Community Center and the historic McCants School on Fant street. In my younger days I was quite the night owl and was known to stay out until the sun came up. But now I am usually ready for the bed early, and since the wife has started back to her job at TL Hanna, she is ready for bed early too.  Sometimes though, something comes along worth staying up late for. Like the People's Bank 30th Annual Midnight Flight in Anderson on Friday, September the 4th. There is a 1 mile, 5K and 10K run and you need to visit the Midnight Flight website to check out all the details. It is a pretty big tradition in Anderson and if you are a runner, you need to check it out!

AnMed Health is going to be offering free cardiovascular screenings to 200 people during a two-day StrokeScore event in Anderson. The event will be held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. until noon each day. People will be checked for warning signs of stroke risk and peripheral artery disease. Registration is required in advance because space is limited so please call ASAP. The screenings will take place at the AnMed Health Women’s and Children’s Hospital on East Greenville Street. As you may have already heard, Anderson County School District Five has obtained an option to buy 30+ acres on Cathey Road for the purpose of building a new elementary school. I had heard various people talk about it but ran across SC Sen. K Bryant's blog on this topic. I followed the link to SaveCatheyRoad.com and read the arguments against locating a school there. I encourage you to do so also. The Cathey Road site has more information regarding the situation. I am not sure all of the reasons they state are as important or realistic as they could be. The safety concerns are the most important but until we get the current budget problems in Anderson Schools settled, I am not sure we need to build another school anyway. I finally had the chance to eat at Gail's Diner at 2105 S Main in Anderson. Looking a the menu, it appears that some of the best deals are for breakfast. But I decided on a cheeseburger plate. The burgers are hand made, not some frozen patties! And I got mine to go but the amount of french fries and slaw that came with it was alot. The box was stuffed. A great deal for the money. So if you are looking for a good place to eat that is locally owned and operated, please check out Gail's. Great food at a great price, prepared by great people!
