What travelors see     What travelors may not see       To all the readers who do not know, Georgetown SC is a historic town that was started in 1729 and is the third oldest city in SC after Charleston and Beaufort. Most of the historic sites are located in the Historic district downtown. Many of the local businesses are centered on front street, nestled nicely on the waterfront. Recently the city (in conjunction with the DOT) has started a major drainage project that has cut off the main entrance to front street, causing a major disruption to the normal flow of traffic. Most of the tourist that travel to Georgetown do so while driving down highway 17 between Charleston and Myrtle Beach. The front street entrance is directly off of 17 and is marked by signage and a traffic light and n...

Until yesterday if you wanted to buy a lot in Cravens Grant you were practically out of luck. The developer is again offering lots for sale starting at $29,900. Due to a "right to repurchase" clause in the community declaration the developer has successfully re-purchased the majority of foreclosed lots in Cravens Grant. Yes, there are current foreclosure listings in Cravens Grant but closing on one is extremely unlikely due to the developer's "right to repurchase." In the past it has been difficult for buyer's agents to receive a commission but now the developer of Cravens Grant is offering a generous 5% commission on developer lots. The developer is offering financing on lots and incentives if you built immediately. Contact Beach and River Homes for more information about buying and bu...

The Hardees in Georgetown has a problem. Its not the food or the service or any of the problems you usually expect from a fast food joint. This problem is actually a good one to have, as problems go. The drive thru is too small! Almost every morning you go by you can see vehicles backed up to the road, waiting to get some breakfast. Now I am no efficiency expert but speaking from my own experience I can say that this is a major deterrent to customers. I actually pulled in the other morning only to realize that there wasn't as much room as I thought. There I was sitting half in and half out on 17 hoping somebody didn't rear end me! As I said I am no expert but if someone affiliated with Hardees happens to read this I hope they see the business they are losing. If anyone reading this is f...

In a year when Front Street merchants have had very little to smile about, they organized one of the most successful and beautiful trick or treat Front Street events I have ever seen. Thank You from all of the smiling children, parents, and Georgetown residents. My daughter is 3 and saw quite a few of her friends at this event and I snapped some very memorable photos of her. She was the pink ballerina.

I have seen these culprits before and they always seems to be enjoying the warm SC sun without a care in the world. The exact location of this shot will remain unpublished for fear that it will draw other sun loving naturalists.

Call is Plantation at Winyah Bay, call it Harbor Club at Winyah Bay and you will be right both times. This is the vacant subdivision with two names and the most potential pitfalls and problems for everyone that has touched it. The land was sold to a developer, the developer subdivided and started selling lots before any roads were built, the economy went south and now the people that bought lots can't build because there is no infrastrucutre, the developer can't pay for the land, the original landowner can't collect, and now some lots are going back to lenders through foreclosure. What a mess. Some lots are waterfront, but most are not and the original price per lot was $100,000 on average, maybe more. Now the comparables indicate that these lots may be worth as little as $6,900 on the ...
