In the early 1800s the tract of land upon which Bristol is now located was known as Sapling Grove and the plantation on which it existed was called Mountain View or King's Meadows. Shrub did it again.  Kyle Busch dominated Bristol's Food City 500 Sprint Cup race today in Tennessee.  I love NASCAR, but I have to admit that it was a pretty boring race for the most part.  Kyle headed to the front early and didn't let up for most of the 500 laps.  Short tracks tend to have either many wrecks/cautions or long runs.  There were a total of nine yellow flags, but no major wreckage (which is a good thing for all involved).  And, happily, my boy Jeff Gordon wracked up another Top 5 finish (his third Top 5 in five races, fourth Top 10) and has stretched his points lead in the 2009 Standings by even more by finishing 4th today.  And a quick shout out to Kasey Kahne for finishing 5th, too.  Way to go, Kasey! Bristol  Tennessee and the Greater Tri-Cities are ready for the Nascar fans. You will see banners outside most businesses welcoming "race fans". The sidewalks that have been under construction are completed and ready for the 160,000 plus fans. Campers have been arriving for the past week in order to get the perfect campsite. If you haven't seen it yet, there is an excellent TV/dvd program out on Discovery called Planet Earth. They have amazing footage of caves, ice worlds, oceans, mountains, deserts... all over the world. They inspired me to do a little research into caves. As it turns out Tennessee has more caves than any other state in the nation with about 8,000+.  I had no idea. I started trying to find out where all these caves are.
