My company has a booth at the  county fair. Tonight was my night to set in the booth.  Sunday is a slow day.  I saw old friends and past customers.  There was a lot of people that stopped by the booth to sign up for the drawing for $200.  I hope that I get a few leads for my time in the booth. I even met a man that is a lender in another booth.  I invited him to come to the office to explain his services.   I took the opportunity to look at some of the exhibits.  I am amazed that there was garden produce and canned goods to be judged this year with the drought that we are having.  My poor garden died a miserable death.  Even the weeds in it are suffering from lack of water.  You know that we are still a rural farming community at heart.  Our booth is across from the tractors and farm eq...

Hiking has always been one of my favorite pass times. Let's just say I LOVE TO GO HIKING. There is something soothing and meditating about being in the wilderness and hiking along a forest trail or path. With our busy lives, taking even thirty minutes to stop by one of your local parks and be one with nature. Even if thoughts of work, lists, family, ect are running through your head, everything seems clearer and easier when your breathing in the fresh air, listening to the sounds of nature and getting a little exercise. Even taking a moment to sit and take a load off, can do wonders. I've listed below some of my top places to take a stroll in Crossville and surrounding areas. If your an avid hiking you have probably visited most of these spots and will continue to do so. If not! Take ...

If you like to golf, Crossville is certaintly the right place. Lake Tansi and Cumberland County State Park have golf courses, and Fairfield has four! Also, you can fish and boat at any of these. Cumberland Gardens has a spectacular (and high) golf courses. Also see River Run and Deer Creek. But that's not all of them, not at all. See the chamber's page on tourism for a  more information. Not everyone likes to Golf so check out other hot spots in Cumberland County like the Cumberland County Play house. And for children, let them run and romp at Chuckles. Getting hungry, stop by Ruby Tuesdays for their exciting soup and salad bar or Dickey's now open. And of course don't forget the playland at McDonalds ! Need a store, no problem, earn points, reduced gas at Kroger ! For every $100.00 do...

Ever sat and thought seriously about what you would do with $210 Million Dollars. I bet we all are this evening as we wait for the balls to come rolling across our television with our tickets cluntched in our sweaty hands.I think for me If I won the powerball jackpot of course I would help family and friends but first and foremost I would have college funds set up for all three of my children as well as an account for when they reached say 25 to purchase a home, maybe a new car. I recently told my mom of the age limit and restrictions of 25 and she thought well why not when they are 18. Well, simply, I remember when I was 18. That to me was answer enough. It wasn't that I was a crazy teen, just an immature one. I mean really at 18 money meant fancy cars and cloths, spending on your frie...

I rise most mornings at 5:15 A.M.  Now that school is in session again I have to shake kids awake, and potty dogs, and make coffee and do all those things that you do every morning out of habit without really thinking about it.  My ultimate morning goal is leave home a few minutes after 6:00 to give me time to make my daily trek to the Wellness Center.  If I thought too much about it I could talk myself out of going.  I tell myself that I feel better afterwards, and think about the shower awaiting me.  This morning was one of those mornings, nothing special, just glad to wake up and be alive and pondering my day.  As I was pulling out of my driveway I noticed this beautiful early morning sun.  It was the kind of sun that makes you stop and admire it.  The sun was red with this gorgeous ...

Crossville, TN is The Gold Capital of Tennessee.  If you don't believe me just ask the Chamber of Commerce.  I have two junior golfers and they play the junior TGA tour in the summer.  Our courses are better than any of the places that we travel to.  Not only are they outstanding courses, but the kids are treated well.  Crossville courses realize that these youngsters are the future of golf.  During the school season the kids play for free or very for a very reasonable prices.  With range balls they do the same thing.  This is a big help to me.  Having two junior golfers can be expensive.  The one on the left had played two multiple day tournaments before this two day tournament at The Bear Trace.  On the second day at the turn arou...

If you are interested in geneology, Cumberland County has a geneology club.  It meets the first and third Monday of the month at the Art Circle Library.  This Monday we are going to go to the Oak Hill Church to photograph and document all the grave markers in the cemetary.  We are trying to do this in all the grave yards in the county.  If you are interested in participating meet at the library at 5:45.  If you have a digital camera bring it, if you do not bring chalk and you can help prep the grave markers for being photographed.  Afterwards we will go back to the library to download the photos.  There is not any officers in this club.  Everyone has an opportunity to shine.  Sometimes we have speakers, other times different ones present geneology projects that they are working on.  Thi...

If you are anywhere near Hwy 127 you are possibly, painfully aware that the 127 Yard Sale is in full force.  Those of us in Cumberland and Fentress County that are in a hurry to travel are going all the alternate routes.  The yard salers come from all over the world to view the wares that are available.  It runs more than 600 miles this year.  It stretches from Gadson, AL to Ohio.  This is the worlds largest yard sale and it was  the brain child of the chamber of commerce in Fentress County.  You will find everything imagineable from treasures to junk.  Crossville has the honor of being near the half way point, which is great for my friends that are in the Uhaul business.  People begin the buying trail and find themselves loaded up when they reach the Plateau and are seeking out ways to...
